Waukesha, Wisconsin, United States SMART SPACES Full-time
Technology Solutions Advisor SMART SPACES | Waukesha, WI About SMART SPACES SMART SPACES is a commercial AV integrator and BSI Integration Partner based in Waukesha, Madison or Appleton, Wisconsin. We design and integrate audiovisual and workplace technology for organizations throughout Wisconsin. We believe good technology starts with understanding how people actually use a space. That means listening to the client, asking the right questions, understanding their goals and budget, and then designing a solution that makes sense for them. We're continuing to grow and are looking for an experienced sales professional to join our team as a Technology Solutions Advisor. The Role The Technology Solutions Advisor is a sales position. You'll be responsible for developing new business, building relationships, managing a pipeline, and ultimately closing profitable commercial AV projects. We're not looking for someone who simply waits for an RFP or responds to incoming quote requests. We want someone who enjoys getting in front of clients, developing relationships, finding opportunities, and helping customers figure out what they actually need. You'll work directly with clients to understand their business, their spaces, and the problems they're trying to solve. From there, you'll work with our internal design, engineering, estimating, and operations teams to put together the right solution. That could mean a conference room one day and a larger multi-space AV deployment the next. Our work includes collaboration systems, professional audio, control and automation, AV-over-IP, digital signage, video walls, room scheduling, and other commercial AV technologies. You don't need to personally engineer every system you sell. We have a team for that. You do need to understand the technology well enough to have a meaningful conversation with a client, recognize an opportunity, ask good questions, and bring the right people into the conversation. What You'll Be Doing Prospecting and developing new business Building relationships with new and existing clients Creating and maintaining a healthy sales pipeline Meeting with clients to understand their needs, goals, budgets, and timelines Conducting site visits and discovery meetings Working with our design and engineering teams to develop AV solutions Preparing and presenting proposals and budgets Managing opportunities from the first conversation through close Negotiating projects and maintaining appropriate margins Keeping CRM opportunities and forecasts current Growing existing accounts and identifying additional opportunities Building relationships with architects, designers, contractors, technology partners, and others in the market Staying current on AV technology and the manufacturers and platforms we represent Representing SMART SPACES at networking events, industry events, and client meetings What We're Looking For Commercial AV sales experience is preferred. We're also open to talking with successful salespeople from adjacent industries such as low-voltage, IT, workplace technology, commercial interiors, or construction. More important than checking every box is having a track record of developing relationships and creating business. You should be comfortable prospecting, walking into a room with a new client, asking questions, presenting solutions, talking about budgets, and asking for the business. We're looking for someone who: Has experience in B2B sales or business development Knows how to prospect and develop their own opportunities Can build and maintain long-term client relationships Is comfortable selling complex solutions rather than commodity products Can communicate with executives, IT teams, facilities teams, architects, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders Understands basic project economics, margin, budgets, and ROI Can manage multiple opportunities at different stages of the sales process Is organized and comfortable working within a CRM Enjoys learning new technology Follows through and takes ownership of their opportunities and client relationships An associate or bachelor's degree is helpful, but we're much more interested in relevant experience and a history of success. AV Experience If you're already in the commercial AV industry, you'll recognize much of what we work with: Microsoft Teams and Zoom environments, conference and meeting rooms, professional audio and DSP, control systems, AV-over-IP, video walls, digital signage, room scheduling, large-format displays, and other integrated workplace technologies. Experience with specific manufacturers or certifications is a plus, but we're not hiring based on how many logos you can put on a certification page. We care more about whether you can sit across the table from a client, understand what they're trying to accomplish, and help us earn their business. How We Work SMART SPACES takes a consultative approach to sales. We don't expect our salespeople to have every technical answer. We do expect them to know their clients, understand their businesses, and recognize when to bring in engineering, design, programming, project management, or another member of the team. Our goal isn't to sell a client one project. It's to become the company they call when they have a technology question or another space to build. That takes time, follow-through, and trust. Location This is a Waukesha-based, client-facing position serving southeastern Wisconsin and the surrounding market. This isn't a role where you'll be expected to sit behind the same desk from 8:00 to 5:00 every day. You'll spend time in the office collaborating with the team, but you'll also be meeting with clients, visiting sites, prospecting, networking, and developing relationships throughout the market. Regular local travel is part of the position. Interested? If you're already successful in commercial AV but are curious about what we're building at SMART SPACES, we'd like to talk. And if you're not actively looking but this sounds interesting, that's okay too. Sometimes the best conversations start that way.
