Responsibilities:
1. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school. 2. Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all school board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students. 3. Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. 4. Approve the master teaching schedule and any special assignments. 5. Supervise the counseling program to enhance individual student education and development. 6. Assist in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum. 7. Plan, organize, and direct implementation of all school activities. 8. Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, school-sponsored activities, functions and athletic events. 9. Implement the guidelines for proper student conduct and enforce discipline, as necessary, in accordance with state regulations and the policies of the Mathews County School Board. 10. Assume responsibility for good attendance on the part of pupils. 11. Participate in the selection and supervision of all school personnel. 12. Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their professional development. 13. Evaluate and counsel all staff members regarding their individual performance. 14. Recommend the reappointment or non-renewal of teachers in accordance with established procedures. 15. Conduct staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 16. Work with cafeteria, maintenance, transportation, etc., personnel to solve problems and assure efficiency. 17. Participate in meetings with central office administrators as needed. 18. Respond to written and oral requests for information. 19. Supervise school finances, including approval of all school purchases. 20. Maintain and control various local funds generated by student activities. 21. Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and other documentation required to appropriate the school’s administration. 22. Assume responsibility for the maintenance, safety, and administration of the school plant. 23. Supervise the daily use of school facilities for academic, non-academic, and community activities in accordance with standard operating procedures. 24. Plan and supervise safety drills, crisis response, and an emergency preparedness program. 25. Provide for adequate inventories of property under his jurisdiction and for the security of and accountability for that property. 26. Keep the superintendent and designee informed of the school’s activities and problems. 27. Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community members and groups to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs. 28. Keep abreast of trends, developments, and research as they relate to education and school operation. 29. Assume responsibility for his own professional growth and development through participation in professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and enrollment in advanced courses.
