Cooley LLP is recruiting 2L students (JD 2029) to join its Washington, DC as summer associates in its Life Sciences & Healthcare Regulatory practice for the 2028 Summer Program. Applicants must submit a cover letter describing their interest in Life Sciences & Healthcare Regulatory, resume and undergraduate transcript. A 1L law school transcript is also required but can be submitted later if it is not available at the time of application.
Our team has expertise in federal and state healthcare law, including HIPAA compliance, healthcare practice issues such as licensure and corporate practice of medicine, and fraud and abuse laws, as well as laws and regulations regarding the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the EU’s European Medicines Agency (EMA) and national competent authority regulated products. We provide counsel across the product and company lifecycle, assisting clients with clinical trial issues, M&A due diligence, SEC disclosures, communications with FDA, HIPAA breaches, state surveys of healthcare law, demand letters and competitor complaints, internal investigations, and civil and criminal litigation, all with a regulatory lens.
A Summer Associate on our team will have exposure to a variety of projects across the life sciences and healthcare regulatory practice, which could include work for both our litigation and business departments. Previous summers have actively engaged on life sciences related litigation, reviews of key legislation impacting the life sciences and healthcare industries, including providing training on such topics; analysis of regulations contained in the Code of Federal Regulations, specifically Titles 21 and 42; discussions with clients about various premarket and post-market strategies for FDA-regulated products, and jurisdictional questions for products that implicate the practice of medicine. Summer associates will also have the opportunity to explore topics such as FDA’s regulation of food products and dietary supplements; work with fellow Cooley colleagues on transactional matters involving FDA-regulated products and the provision of healthcare services, and assist with healthcare compliance counseling.
This is a summer associate position, and the expected salary is based on an annualized rate of $235,000, with semi-monthly base pay of $9,791.67, subject to payroll withholdings and deductions.
