POSITION SUMMARY:
The Metabolomics/Lipidomics Scientist will have extensive experience in
metabolite and/or small molecule analysis using LC/MS and LC/MS/MS platforms.
The scientist will perform targeted and nontargeted bioanalysis and develop
novel methods to support the platform.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for the full spectrum of activities involved in metabolomics/lipidomics analysis as a member of the team including the following:
* Conceptualize, perform, analyze and report experiments.
* Perform mass spectrometry-based assays and studies focused on metabolite analysis of diverse samples from the biological matrices.
* Laboratory analytical instrumentation routine maintenance.
* Daily QA/QC, system suitability testing, method development and validated SOP implementation
* Develop SOPs.
* Manage external collaborations.
* Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Ph.
D. (with 1+ years of experience) in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field in the analysis of small molecules and metabolites by mass spectrometry.
* Broad understanding of metabolomics/lipidomics applications and biochemistry in the areas of systems biology, neurodegeneration, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is a plus.
* Proven ability to troubleshoot common instrumentation-related issues, specifically for HPLC and MS systems.
* Experience with common sample preparation techniques, including solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction and protein precipitation for biofluids, tissues and cells.
* Deep understanding of core HPLC and MS concepts, including (but not limited to) principles of reversed-phase LC and HILIC, high-resolution/accurate mass strategies, structural elucidation by MS/MS, isotope dilution, isotopologue identification, multiple-charged ions.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of technical and organizational skills.
* Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping. Must demonstrate fully professional level requiring independent work in metabolomics research and development.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required for preparation of reports to management.
* Ability to prepare manuscripts for presentation, publication in scientific journals, and regulatory requirements is preferred.
