Talbert House is seeking compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Therapeutic Support Specialists (TSS) to join our Youth Residential care team on our new Child Wellness Campus. In this role, you will provide direct care, supervision, and support to youth in a structured residential treatment environment. You will play a critical role in helping young people build healthy coping skills, develop positive relationships, and achieve personal growth while ensuring a safe and supportive living environment. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with children and adolescents, thrive in a team-oriented setting, and want to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth and families.
What You'll Do
As a Therapeutic Support Specialist, you will:
- Provide active supervision and support to youth in a residential treatment setting.
- Foster a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment that promotes emotional and behavioral growth.
- Utilize trauma-informed and strength-based approaches when interacting with youth and families.
- Support youth in developing healthy decision-making, communication, and coping skills.
- Build positive, professional relationships while serving as a consistent and supportive role model.
- Assist with implementing individualized treatment goals, behavior support plans, and daily routines.
- Facilitate and participate in therapeutic, recreational, educational, and life-skills activities.
- Utilize approved crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain safety.
- Monitor and maintain health, safety, and cleanliness standards throughout the facility.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including shift reports and incident reporting.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and critical incidents according to agency policies and procedures.
- Transport youth as required by program needs.
- Collaborate effectively with treatment team members and other professionals to support positive outcomes for youth.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet agency driving requirements.
- Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with youth in behavioral health, residential treatment, education, child welfare, juvenile justice, or related human services settings.
- Experience supporting individuals with behavioral, emotional, or mental health needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, or positive behavior support practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport and establish appropriate boundaries with youth.
- Sound judgment and effective problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during crisis situations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer proficiency and documentation skills.
- Willingness to learn and apply Trauma-Informed Care, Crisis Intervention, and other program-specific practices.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and engaging in residential activities.
- Ability to supervise and respond quickly to youth needs and emergency situations.
- Occasional driving as required by program operations.
- Ability to operate standard office and communication equipment, including computers and mobile devices.
