Summary
About the Position: This position is responsible for providing assistance with managing the Range Training facilities at Fort Devens Reserve Forces Training Area and facilities.
This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
- Inspects and oversees usage of training areas by active duty and reserve components of all military services.
- Assists the Range Safety Officer in monitoring all firing and training activities conducted within the range
- Completes paperwork for issue/turn-in of equipment provided for use during exercises
- Operates the firing desk and maintains fire control boards/computer systems to reflect current range and training area status and activities.
- Provide tracking airspace utilization data and submit an annual utilization report.
- Coordinates medical evacuation, fire, accident, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and other emergency requests between using units and responding personnel. Notifies Devens Fire Department in case of range or brush fire.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operators license.
- May be required to work beyond regular working hours, during nights and weekend hours.
- This is drug testing designated position (TDP). Those individuals not currently occupying a TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position and periodically thereafter.
- Employee must obtain and maintain the following requirements for each Cyber work role at the assigned proficiency level: 1) Foundational qualification requirements within 9 months, 2) Resident qualification requirements within 12 months, and
- 3) 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per work role code (which can overlap).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) maintaining proper control over the use of live fire training areas, restricted airspace, and/or training facilities; and 2) utilizing office automation equipment and software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as safety management, emergency management, natural resources management, recreation management, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position to be filled.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
