Role Summary
The Assistant Controller supports the financial health of our organization through accurate and timely reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day general ledger work. This hands-on role executes the core accounting cycle — general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, cost allocation across entities, payroll processing, and month-end close — while assisting with the development of Standard Operating Procedures and process improvements that strengthen the accounting function. Key Responsibilities
Maintain the general ledger across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data
Execute month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Perform cost allocations across entities and properties to ensure accurate expense distribution
Reconcile intercompany activity and process expense reimbursements
Process bi-weekly payroll, including payroll entries, reconciliations, and reporting in coordination with HR and external providers
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and compliance with financial reporting standards and internal policies
Track and reconcile commission payments
Assist with the development, documentation, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the accounting function
Contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce manual work
Collaborate with property management, leasing, and operations teams to gather information needed for accurate reporting
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate, property management, or a multi-entity environment
Hands-on experience with accounts payable and multi-entity cost allocation
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and the full accounting cycle
Experience documenting workflows and contributing to SOP development a plus
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas)
Experience with property management or ERP accounting software preferred
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines independently
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
CPA highly preferred
