Job Description
Step into a hands-on role where your precision and technical skills directly influence the reliability of complex electronic products. This is a contract opportunity with a busy electronics operation in Sugar Land, TX, where you’ll work on high-quality assemblies and help ensure products meet rigorous performance and workmanship standards.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for assembling, soldering, and wiring electronic components and printed circuit boards to meet IPC-A-610 standards. Working from detailed electronic schematics, you’ll build, test, and troubleshoot assemblies that are critical to the performance of the final product. Your work will support production schedules and contribute to consistent, high-quality output.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble electronic components and printed circuit boards according to engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Perform through-hole and surface-mount soldering, wire bonding, and cable harness assembly to IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
- Inspect assemblies visually and with basic test equipment to verify proper component placement, polarity, and solder joint quality.
- Conduct electronic testing using multimeters and oscilloscopes to validate functionality and identify faults.
- Troubleshoot and rework defective assemblies, including de-soldering, component replacement, and wiring corrections.
- Document assembly steps, test results, and rework performed in line with internal procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to resolve assembly issues and improve build processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety and ESD handling procedures.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as an electronic assembler or similar role working with printed circuit boards and electronic components.
- Strong soldering skills in both through-hole and surface-mount technologies, including fine-pitch work.
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings accurately.
- Hands-on experience using multimeters and oscilloscopes for basic electronic testing and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated compliance with IPC-A-610 workmanship standards in previous roles.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail for precise assembly and rework tasks.
- Ability to work to defined production schedules, manage multiple assemblies, and meet quality targets.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a production environment.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with cable and harness assembly, crimping, and connector installation.
- Familiarity with ESD-safe work practices and handling of sensitive electronic components.
- Background in low-volume, high-mix production or prototype builds.
- Experience working within ISO or other quality-managed manufacturing environments.
- Basic knowledge of root cause analysis and continuous improvement practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certificate or vocational training in electronics, electrical assembly, or related field preferred.
- IPC-A-610 certification or equivalent formal training in electronic workmanship standards strongly preferred.
