General Equipment Operator – Vegetation Crew
Keep Ada County Moving
Up to $5,000 Sign-on Bonus
Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is looking for General Equipment Operators to join our Vegetation Crew on our Maintenance Team. At ACHD, you won’t spend your days behind a desk. You’ll operate a variety of equipment, work alongside a team, and help keep Ada County’s roads and infrastructure safe, clean, and in good working order. And when winter weather hits, you’ll be part of the team that keeps people moving. These are full-time, non-exempt positions with a starting wage of $23.80–$26.20 per hour, DOQ.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform skilled maintenance work, manual labor, and operate light- to heavy-duty equipment, including winter maintenance equipment used for plowing, sanding, and de-icing roads.
- May perform a variety of skilled maintenance work, which relates to tree trimming, shoulder mowing, and weed spraying.
- May work with the Sheriff Labor Detail (SLD) program and, when assigned, provide direction and supervision to an inmate crew. Will be responsible for enforcing the rules outlined in the Ada County Sheriff’s Labor Detail Participant Contract. A 5% pay differential is provided while performing SLD Lead duties. Employees performing General Equipment Operator (GEO) duties are not eligible for the SLD differential.
- Help keep Ada County moving when winter weather or other emergencies hit. Responding to these conditions is an essential function of the position and may require working outside of normal work hours.

What You’ll Need:
- A current Idaho Class “A” CDL license with tanker endorsement.
- If license is from another state, must be able to obtain an Idaho CDL by start of employment.
- If you do not have tanker endorsement, you must be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Must have and Idaho Professional Applicators License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
- Experience driving/operating dump truck and loader is required as well as experience with trimming trees and knowledge of tree species is a plus.
- ISA Certified Arborist preferred.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a background check and fingerprinting through the Ada County Sheriff’s Office to work on the Vegetation Crew.
- Any combination of education, training, or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be acceptable.
