Position Overview: The Director, Regulatory & Technical Affairs, is responsible for executing against regulatory strategy on issues impacting the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, with a focus on nutrition policy and food safety. The Director will manage complex workflows, frame narrative, and serve as a trusted communicator and expert, both internally and externally with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), on food and beverage issues. Reporting to the Vice President, Regulatory & Technical Affairs, the role will manage the execution of and proactively shape and influence emerging regulatory policy issues, concerns, and opportunities that help to advance the CPG industrys agenda while meeting the expectations of the American consumer. Key Areas of Responsibility: Regulatory Policy Work collaboratively to monitor the regulatory landscape on food and beverage issues, both with members of the organization and U.S. regulatory agencies. Proactively identify regulatory affairs issues and opportunities for the CPG industry. Proactively cultivate, establish and maintain relationships with members, specific U.S. regulatory agencies, the research community, trade associations, and NGOs. Represent Consumer Brands in regulatory meetings and industry events. Issues Management Manage projects on issues related to nutrition, labeling and food safety. Provide expertise, assistance and representation on technical and regulatory issues throughout the organization. Participate in and, as appropriate, lead discussions and consensus building activities with member companies and stakeholders. Analyze proposed regulations, guidance, and other emerging issues as needed. Lead the creation of stakeholder comments, talking points and slide decks on issues. Requirements Experience & Education: A minimum of a BA/BS degree is required. An advanced degree such as an MS preferred. A degree in nutrition or food safety is a plus. 8+ years of related employment experience in a relevant industry, trade association or government agency on matters involving nutrition, labeling and/or food safety. 5-7 years of experience with FDA is a plus. A track record of demonstrated results in government, association and/or political environments. Skills: Familiarity with the relevant HHS/FDA laws and regulations including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) and relevant regulations, policies and guidance documents. Understanding of multilateral organizations on food safety, such as Codex Alimentarius, World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Passion for learning issues and driving results. Public speaking skills and the presence to represent the association and its position(s) to external stakeholders. Ability to persuasively communicate high-level issues to a technical audience and vice- versa in concise messages. Excellent project management skills. Advanced proficiency in Office 365 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent customer service skills and email etiquette. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work. Flexibility in learning new software and/or computer/technical applications. A self-starter with the ability to work independently. Ability to work on cross-functional teams.
