The Public Safety Director of QA will report directly to the VP of Public Safety Engineering and work closely with the leaders of Engineering, Product Management, Customer Support and Cloud. This role is responsible for defining and executing the organizations quality strategy for the public safety portfolio. This includes overseeing software testing, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products that meet customer expectations and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities: Develop and implement the overall QA strategy for the public safety portfolio. Define quality goals, KPIs, and success metrics. Influence product and engineering leadership on quality standards and best practices. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of QA engineers, testers, and automation specialists distributed across functional product teams. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and quality excellence. Drive hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the QA team. Establish and improve QA processes, methodologies, and standards (e.g., Agile, DevOps, CI/CD). Implement test strategies including manual, automated, regression, performance, and security testing. Ensure proper test coverage throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Oversee the selection, implementation, and optimization of testing tools and frameworks. Drive the adoption of test automation to increase coverage, speed, and reliability. Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. Work closely with Product Management, Development, UX, DevOps, and Customer Support. Participate in release planning, code reviews, and go/no-go decisions. Ensure alignment between QA objectives and product requirements. Identify and mitigate quality risks in software products. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, SOC 2, HIPAA). Lead root cause analysis for critical defects and drive corrective actions. Monitor customer feedback, support issues, and production incidents to drive improvements. Partner with customer-facing teams to understand real-world usage and quality expectations. Ensure QA efforts directly contribute to customer satisfaction and product reliability. Provide regular quality reports and metrics to executive leadership. Communicate risks, progress, and quality insights clearly to stakeholders. Education / Qualifications 8 15+ years of experience in software quality assurance or engineering. 5+ years in a QA leadership role (e.g., QA Manager, QA Lead, or Director). Proven experience managing QA teams across manual, automation, regression, and performance testing. Experience working in Agile/Scrum and/or DevOps environments. Demonstrated success in scaling quality processes in fast-paced or high-growth software companies. Strong people management and team-building skills. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving development, product, and DevOps teams. Proven ability to recruit, coach, and retain high-performing QA talent. Ability to influence without authority and drive quality culture across the organization. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience defining quality metrics, KPIs, and reporting to executives. Strong verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement and executive reporting. Customer-centric mindset with a passion for delivering high-quality software. Deep understanding of: QA methodologies and best practices (unit, integration, system, regression, performance testing) SDLC and STLC (Software/Testing Life Cycle) Test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) Test management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr) CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) Bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps B.S. degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other related degrees.
