We partner with our customers, ensuring their infrastructure systems are strategically maintained and rehabilitated for long-term performance.Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and dependable Utility Pipe Layer/Equipment Operator to join our specialty construction team. In this role, you will install, repair, and maintain underground piping systems, including water, sewer, and storm drainage. The position also includes restoration work such as concrete, asphalt, and landscape/sod restoration. The ideal candidate is physically fit, detail-oriented, and committed to safety and quality workmanship. You should be able to place, seal, and align pipes efficiently without slowing down the construction crew. This role may involve working in varied environments, including construction sites, urban areas, and industrial zones.What You'll DoInstall and align underground utility pipes (water, sewer, storm drain) according to blueprints and specificationsExcavate trenches using hand tools or heavy equipmentGrade and level trench bases to ensure proper pipe placementCut, fit, and join pipe sections (weld, glue, or otherwise)Inspect and test installed systems for leaks and proper functionCollaborate with equipment operators, foremen, and other crew membersFollow safety protocols and maintain a clean worksiteRead and interpret construction plans and utility mapsProvide ground support to lead Foreman and equipment operatorsOperate hand tools and small equipment as neededPerform additional duties as assigned to support the construction team and company objectivesRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred1-2 years of experience in pipe laying or underground utility workFamiliarity with PVC, ductile iron, concrete, corrugated metal, and HDPE pipe materialsAbility to operate hand tools (handsaws, sawzalls, concrete saws, tampers, pumps, etc.)Ability to work around trenching and excavation equipmentStrong understanding of OSHA safety standardsPhysical ability to lift heavy materials and work outdoors in various weather conditionsValid driver's license and reliable transportationClear communication skills and ability to follow crew leader directionsPunctual, reliable, and committed to the jobAbility to work independently and as part of a teamPreferred QualificationsExperience driving company vehicles or operating construction equipmentExperience with laser levels and grade checkingBasic knowledge of soil compaction and backfilling techniquesPerks of the JobComprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision InsuranceCompany-paid life insurancePaid Time Off (PTO)Opportunities for career advancement and professional growthShenandoah is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
