This position is not available for remote work.Work will be both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Outside the office, standard work wear will consist of hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses and ear plugs, with other items as needed; these items will be providedLocation: Aurora, North CarolinaTerm (6 months): Dates can be adjusted/extended to coincide with school terms.Fall 2025 - June 2 to December 19What you will do:Mine Planning Department:Become familiar with aerial photos, mine plans, geologic maps and cross sections, groundwater trend charts and utility construction schedulesBecome familiar with GPS surveying equipment and computer applicationsBecome familiar with Autodesk Map 2004 and the generation of 2D drawingsAssist in conducting production advance field surveys for Prestripping, Mining and Mine Services activities along with the associated survey calculations and mappingBecome familiar with groundwater measurement instruments and sampling protocolAssist in conducting surface and groundwater field sampling projectsAssist in the scanning of documents and drawings for proper archivingAssist the Mine Planning Superintendent, Mine Planning Engineer and Senior Surveyor on safety and environmental audits and inspectionsMining Department:Perform time and motion studies of equipment operationPerform time and motion studies of repetitive equipment movesStudy and recommend improvements to pipe tracking systemAssist in analysis of ore pumping system optionsAssist in economic analysis of production and maintenance activitiesUpdate and recommend improvements to production reports.Mill Department:Work with Flotation Technician to develop additional concentrator testing to improve recoveryWork with Flotation Technician and vendor to reduce reagent consumption and reduce unit costDevelop matrix and trend chart to show relationship between coal sulfur content and AESResearch and develop Calcining energy efficiency program to reduce BTU per ton of calcined rockWhat you will bring:Must be currently enrolled and have completed at least 1 year of an undergraduate degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent related program at an accredited post-secondary institution AND returning to full-time studies after the work term.Demonstrate positive safety behavior and leadershipWillingness to learn and gain knowledge and experience through trainingStrong interpersonal teamwork and communication skillsMotivation to set and achieve goals, take initiative, and nurture project forwardAbility to multi-task and adapt to changing prioritiesMust be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorshipMust be able to work at heights, outdoors, and around potentially hazardous chemicalsMust be comfortable and physically capable of entering and working in a confined spaceMust be able to hear and understand audible alarms, changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communicationsMust be familiar with Microsoft's Office SuiteCompensation & Benefits:Hourly Rate: $23.62-27.09 USD per hour. This range is estimated for this position located in Aurora, NC. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.We provide an attractive benefits package that includes catastrophic coverages including life, accidental death and dismemberment, and business travel accident insurance for a position of at least three months in duration and more than 30 hours per week.
