The Office of Inspector General is the independent oversight body for Chicago's approximately 650 public, contract, and charter schools. The Office of Inspector General is charged with the responsibility of investigating allegations of waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement in public education within the jurisdiction of the Chicago Board of Education. The Office's Sexual Allegations Unit investigates allegations of sexual misconduct by a CPS-affiliated adult, including employees, contractors, vendors, and charter schools, where the victim is a CPS student and/or a minor.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Inspector General, the Deputy Inspector General, General Investigations and Performance Analysis, will direct investigations and manage the OIG's General Investigations Unit which is charged with the responsibility of investigating allegations of waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement, and the Performance Analysis Unit, which conducts performance reviews that produce recommendations aimed at improving CPS programs and processes. This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis. This Job Will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:Direct teams, managers, investigators and support staff involved in case intake, case management, special projects, report drafting, and case closing to ensure compliance with OIG protocols and practicesReview and edit investigative summary reportsMonitor assignments and track performance to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion in compliance with established quality control standards, provide guidance and support on concerns to ensure efficient operationsManage the drafting of presentations to the Board of Education concerning GIU mattersAnalyze and interpret CPS policy and state and federal laws applicable to investigations and projectsParticipate in developing office policies and operating procedures Coordinate with outside law enforcement entities, child protection agencies, CPS's Office of Student Protections, and others, as appropriateDevelop training opportunities for OIG staff in relevant subject areasOther duties as assignedEducation Required:* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.* Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school preferredExperience Required:* Minimum of seven (7) years of overall professional experience in investigations, government oversight, law enforcement, criminal/administrative prosecutions, ethics, or labor/employment law Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity* Prior government experience strongly preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to show leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to delegate assignments and tasks to staff efficiently while simultaneously monitoring the progress of multiple tasks. Ability to interpret data and evidence thoroughly and correctlyStrong legal writing ability preferredAdvanced writer with the ability to draft reports and other written work products on schedule and with clarityExceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality, with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels of a large governmental organizationConditions of Employment:As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:* Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.

The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
