Serving nearly 2000 students across 6 schools in the East Bay, our day-to-day work is embodied with a set of core values: Students First, Be Adaptable, Perseverance, Take Responsibility, and Commitment to Distinction.OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Amethod Public Schools’ Senior Director of Finance & Administration, the Finance Manager provides strategic, financial management for AMPS, closely coordinating and working with the senior leadership team. The Finance Manager will play an integral role in creating and managing the budgets, reporting, and grants for several school sites serving some of the country’s most chronically underserved students. Requirements:KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAssist with ensuring the financial health and sustainability of our organizationUnder the direction of the Sr. Director of Finance, assist with the oversight of all accounting and reporting activitiesAssist with functional responsibility over all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administrationHelps to build a strong, cohesive Finance Department culture that reflects the core values of AMPSServes as a thought partner on cross-team projectsCompletes annual performance evaluations of all direct reportsConsistent with the organizational priorities, develops, analyzes, and makes recommendations relating to accounting and financial systems to ensure effective and efficient financial operationsOversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems as directed ensuring complianceManage accounting functions and back office provider to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions to ensure fidelity of data and timely monthly and year-end reportingAnalyzes financial data, creates and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps the Sr. Director of Finance & Administration and Chief Executive Officer or Designee abreast of the organization’s financial statusOversees program and grants accounting; ensures that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund periodManage timelines, creates and/or ensures completion of all compliance reporting, including, but not limited to, Budgets, Interim Reports, Unaudited Actuals, and Expenditure ReportsIn partnership with Sr. Director of Finance & Administration, oversees the full coordination of all the audits and the gathering of required audit information, IRS Form 990 preparations, and filing activityMaintains continuous lines of communication and keeps appropriate staff informed of all accounting issuesTogether with the Finance Department and cross-functional teams, strives to obtain clean audits each fiscal yearOther duties as assigned.QualificationsA deep commitment to the mission of AMPS and an unwavering belief in the potential of all our studentsAn unwavering commitment to anti-racism, equity, and inclusionBA/BS degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related fieldThorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as Governmental Auditing Standards (GAS) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncementsUp-to-date on nonprofit expertise regarding audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operationsKnowledge of financial compliance and risk management including but not limited to statutory and regulatory requirements for nonprofit organizationsOutstanding leadership and management skills, particularly as it relates to teams, working through others, promoting collaboration, managing conflict, goal setting, and holding people accountableA strong writing abilityAbility to interact with a broad range of stakeholders with different interests and needsUnderstanding and willingness to work in both rural and urban communities, including exhibiting resourcefulness and willingness to travel up to various sites 3+ Years charter school finance experience preferredPhysical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to twenty pounds rarely.Ability to use eyesight for reading and close-up work, as well as the ability to see details at a distance.The ability to speak clearly and hear well, both in person and over the phone.The ability to move around the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.The ability to position self to maintain files in file cabinets by stooping, kneeling, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching overhead.Position may be exposed to various weather conditions and temperatures both inside and outside.*Employment with AMPS subject to Board approval*
