This position provides day-to-day leadership to other staff while performing skilled maintenance and operational duties that support the unique needs of both general education and specialized program settings. The lead technician coordinates daily workflows, prioritizes maintenance and custodial tasks, and serves as the primary point of contact for building operations, facility needs, and safety concerns during assigned shifts.Working closely with administrators, teachers, support staff, and the District maintenance team, this position ensures that classrooms, common areas, specialized program spaces, and grounds are maintained at high standards. The Lead Technician monitors building systems, performs routine and preventative maintenance, responds to urgent issues, assists with Lamphere Center bussing, and ensures compliance with district policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong technical skills, effective communication, leadership abilities, and a proactive approach to solving building-related issues before they disrupt the educational process.The Lead Maintenance & Custodial Technician is expected to model professionalism, support a positive team culture, and maintain a consistent focus on student and staff safety, operational efficiency, and high-quality service.Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 3-5 years of custodial, building maintenance, or facilities experience; leadership experience preferred. Working knowledge of cleaning procedures, building systems, and maintenance trades. Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of others. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to lift 50 lbs., work from ladders, and perform physical tasks required for custodial and maintenance operations. Valid driver's license. Work Environment Fast-paced school environment with interaction among staff, students, contractors, and the public. Requires indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Some evening or weekend hours may be required for events or emergencies. Preferred Skills (Optional) Experience working in an educational setting. Basic knowledge of work order systems. Certification or coursework in building operations, custodial management, or maintenance trades. Responsibilities:Working in a Center-Based Program Environment:The Lead Maintenance & Custodial Technician supports a Center Program that serves students with diverse and significant needs. This role requires an understanding of how facility cleanliness, safety, and environmental conditions impact students with physical, emotional, cognitive, and sensory challenges. The technician must be attentive to specialized program requirements such as accessible room layouts, adaptive equipment, health-related supports, and heightened safety considerations. Responsibilities include maintaining specialized classrooms, therapy spaces, restrooms, and equipment areas to high standards of sanitation and accessibility; collaborating with program staff to understand individual student needs that may affect custodial or maintenance practices; assisting with Transportation needs, and responding promptly and sensitively to situations involving bodily fluids, behavioral incidents, or environmental triggers. The Lead Technician ensures that all work is performed in a manner that supports student dignity, respects confidentiality, and contributes to a stable, supportive, and predictable environment for students and staff.Custodial Leadership & Oversight: Lead, schedule, and support custodial staff in daily cleaning, event setups, and building-use needs. Train custodial team members in proper cleaning techniques, equipment use, safety procedures, and district standards. Conduct daily building checks to ensure cleanliness, security, and readiness. Monitor supply levels and coordinate ordering and distribution. Inspect work for quality and ensure adherence to district policies, safety practices, and maintenance protocols. Maintenance & Facility Operations: Perform general maintenance duties, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, and preventative maintenance tasks. Respond to work orders in a timely manner and coordinate with the District maintenance team for escalated or specialized repairs. Conduct regular building inspections to identify safety hazards, structural issues, and equipment needs. Support seasonal tasks such as grounds work, snow removal, and storm response. Assist with building systems operation, including alarms, key systems, and mechanical rooms. Safety, Compliance & Communication: Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSDS, and all district safety procedures. Maintain logs, inspection records, and documentation of work completed. Serve as a primary point of contact for building concerns during assigned shifts. Communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure building needs are met. Assist with emergency response procedures and after-hours issues as needed.
