Here, you'll be supported in progressing - whatever your ambitions.Software Developer III (Backend)About the Role:At Boston Scientific, we are looking for an outstanding, experienced, and highly independent backend Software Developer III to design, develop, and maintain internal business tools and APIs. This role joins a newly created group that operates like a startup within Boston Scientific, focused on delivering high-impact internal applications that reduce friction, automate workflows, and unlock data across the organization.This team works with an MVP-first mindset, prioritizing speed, clarity, and maintainability. You'll be expected to make strong technical decisions, know when something is "good enough for now," and still protect the long-term vision of the platform. This role has high visibility and influence, and you'll play a key part in shaping backend standards and patterns for the group.Your Responsibilities Include:Owning backend systems and APIs end-to-endYou will design, develop, test, and deploy backend services with minimal oversight. This includes API design, database modeling, business logic, and performance considerations. Code quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability are critical.Designing and building robust APIsYou will be responsible for creating clean, well-documented REST APIs using Django/FastAPI/django-ninja that frontend teams can depend on. You should be opinionated about API design and data contracts while remaining pragmatic.Delivering quickly without sacrificing qualityYou are expected to move fast while still writing readable, testable, and well-structured code. This includes appropriate testing, documentation, and thoughtful tradeoffs in the face of shifting prioritiesCollaborating across disciplinesYou will work closely with frontend developers, product partners, and internal customers to translate business needs into simple, scalable backend solutions. Clear communication and a problem-solving mindset are essential.Shaping backend standards and best practicesAs a level III developer, you will help establish and reinforce patterns around API structure, data access, testing, and deployment to ensure consistency and speed across the team. What We're Looking For:Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, software development, or related field; additional industry experience may be considered in lieu of an academic degree.Minimum of 3 years of relevant, professional experience with a completed Bachelor's degree, or minimum of 6 years of relevant, professional experience without a Bachelor's degree.Proven experience designing and delivering production APIs, with hands-on involvement in performance analysis, optimization, and reliability improvements. Demonstrated success in these areas will distinguish top candidates.Strong communication and collaboration skillsYou will work with a wide range of internal customers and technical partners. The ability to clearly explain backend constraints, tradeoffs, and solutions is essential.Ownership and accountabilityYou take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks, and are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.Adaptability and learning mindsetThe work is fast-paced and evolving. You must be able to learn new domains quickly and adjust as prioritiesRequired Technical Skills:Python - advanced proficiency with a strong understanding of backend application designDjango - building and maintaining production-grade applicationsFastAPI and/or Django-Ninja - designing and implementing REST APIsPostgreSQL - schema design, migrations, query optimizationRESTful API design - clear contracts, versioning, validation, and error handlingGit (GitLab) and CI/CD workflowsContainerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS)Test-driven development or strong automated testing practices Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, software development, or related fieldExperience supporting internal tools and workflow-driven applicationsFamiliarity with MVP-driven development and iterative deliveryExposure to frontend-backend collaboration, even if not a frontend specialistExperience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)Experience operating services in AWS environmentsRequisition ID: 622536Minimum Salary: $78300Maximum Salary: $148800The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) - see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com-will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role.
