Assists and/or oversees maintenance of equipment and systems in assigned areas. Incumbent will be expected to have thorough knowledge in the discipline(s) for which they will be responsible. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.Duties/ResponsibilitiesPerforms skilled to highly skilled trades work in area assigned.Performs general maintenance tasks.Performs skilled installation and repair/modification, site layout, troubleshooting, diagnostics within assigned trades.Operates various manual and electrical tools in the performance of tasks.Under the direction of the designated supervisor, designs and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure compliance with sanitary and health codes.Clean and repair equipment as needed.Participates in on-call duty.May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks.This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace.Performs other duties as assigned.When assigned to Parks and BeautificationResponsible to plan, assign and direct work of others.Coordinates, oversees, and participates in all landscaping duties including, but not limited to pruning of shrubs, trees, and palms; and maintain grounds, including weed control, mulching, fertilizing, the installation of plants and horticultural debris removal.Coordinates, oversees, and participates in basic "hard goods" maintenance, painting, plumbing, general carpentry as well as trash removal and rest room cleaning.Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all irrigation systems.Responsible for simple electrical repair related to irrigation system/equipment, i.e., pumps and motors.May be required to assist with landscape/grounds maintenance.Review irrigation documents and make necessary adjustments to the design, as needed.When Assigned to Cemetery:Performs all duties when assigned to Parks and Beautification.Coordinate, oversee and participate in the burial process from locating gravesites through the internment process and ending with record keeping.Reads cemetery map.When Assigned to Water Plant:Responsible for the installation and repair of water distribution and/or sewer collection assets.Assist in general maintenance such as filter changes, patching and painting of the exterior and interior of buildings as needed.Responsible for complex plumbing and electrical repairs/maintenance.Repair pumps and motors as needed.When Assigned to Water Distribution:Responsible for new installation and repairs to existing water lines from one inch to thirty-six inchesMake water taps, run service lines, maintain and or repair fire hydrants, install valves.Troubleshoot and maintain water distribution system.Operate various hand tools including line stop and valve insert equipment.May be required to work on call and overtime.When Assigned to Streets- Electrical:Assist in streetlight repair and installations.Assist in other electrical repairs and installations as needed.Responsible for recordkeeping and equipment maintenance.After successful completion of the probationary period, must participate in on-call duty.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned tasks.Knowledgeable in the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned.Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations, and protocols.Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practicesKnowledgeable in basic report and record maintenance principles and practices.Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment.Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s).Skilled in prioritization, organization, time management, and attention to detail.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including but not limited to hand tools.Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists.Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/ or in response to emergencies.Ability to receive and understand oral and written directions.Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field.Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems.Ability to effectively use devices such as computer or tablet.Minimum RequirementsHigh School diploma or GED. Experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be substituted for the High School diploma or GED.Minimum three years of experience in related fieldMandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSFor all Safety-Sensitive CDL positions* Department of Transportation (D.O.T.)
