Senior Software Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in modern backend environments and enjoys leading meaningful software modernization efforts. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who wants to influence architecture, mentor teammates, and deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that matter. This project is for a large government agency in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. This position is hybrid and must be available to work onsite as needed. This is a 1 year project. If you enjoy owning complex systems end to end, collaborating closely with stakeholders, and helping teams adopt best practices, this role offers both technical depth and leadership opportunity.What You'll DoAs a Senior Software Engineer, you'll have real ownership and influence:Play a key role in modernizing and enhancing enterprise systems, from design through deliveryParticipate in and help lead Agile development activities, including:Requirements gathering and solution designStand-ups and sprint ceremoniesWriting user stories and technical tasksCode development and peer reviewsLead development efforts for web applications and services using:.NET (C#)PostgreSQLGraphQLOptional MEAN stack technologiesContribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processesSupport containerized environments, troubleshoot deployments, and improve system reliabilityDesign and implement unit testing to ensure long-term code qualityReview and support performance and load testing, identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunitiesTroubleshoot complex issues and implement scalable, maintainable solutionsServe as a trusted technical partner to a small, collaborative development teamChampion engineering best practices and continuous improvement across the software lifecycleWhat You'll BringMinimum 5 years of Software Development experience.Strong experience building and maintaining applications using .NET (C#)Hands-on experience designing and supporting GraphQL APIsSolid experience working with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL ServerProven ability to design and maintain data models and database schemasExperience serving as a senior or lead engineer, guiding development efforts and influencing technical directionFamiliarity with Agile development practices, including sprint planning and backlog refinementWorking knowledge of DevOps tools and practices, including Docker and CI/CD pipelinesComfort working independently and collaboratively, with a passion for mentoring junior developersStrong communication skills and experience working with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutionsBonus Skills (Nice to Have)Experience with legislative systems or legislative dataFamiliarity with Microsoft Azure cloud servicesExposure to MEAN stack technologies (MongoDB, Express, Angular, Node.js)Experience with React.js (a plus, not a requirement)Why This Role?High-impact modernization work-not just maintenanceReal technical ownership and influenceOpportunity to mentor and lead without stepping away from hands-on engineeringCollaborative team environment with modern tools and practicesClearance and Citizenship RequirementsAbility to attain and retain a Public Trust ClearanceU.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this ProgramSynectics is an Equal Opportunity Employer
