This position is located within Police Service of the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center(VAMC)/Health Care System (HCS) in Bay Pines, Florida. The mission of the Police Officer is to serve and protect Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities. Safety and security are paramount to ensuring that the VA successfully serve and honor the men and women who are America's Veterans.This position serves as a vital part of the VA Police Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or visitor encounters when entering a VA facility. Provides security and assistance to Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily.Major Duties Include, but not limited to:Protects the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property;Prevents, detect and investigate crimes;Patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle;Subdues persons causing disturbance or who threaten harm to themselves or others;Follows rules/procedures concerning search and seizure of evidence and contraband;Takes charge of significant and catastrophic events;Conducts investigations, apprehensions, and detention;Obtains search and arrest warrants;Arrests violators;Uses independent judgment in cases where policy is not clear;Provides basic first aid and CPR prior to arrival of emergency medical personnel;Prepares report of activities and events that occurred during shift ;Performs traffic control;Assists citizens in emergency situations; and,Performs other related duties as assigned.Work Schedule: The C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center is a 24/7 operation and has openings for various shifts. The position may require assignment to any of the following shifts based on operational needs. (Shifts will vary and be discussed during the interview process)Various work schedules may include: Sunday through Saturday, 6:00am-4:00pm, 7:00am-5:00pm, 8:00 am- 4:00pm. 10:00am- 6:00pm, 9:00pm-7:00am, 10:00pm- 6:00am, and 12:00pm-10:00am. Any other hours dictated by emergencies or exigent circumstances.Telework: Not Available.Virtual: This is not a virtual position.Position Description/PD#: Police Officer/PD99925S*This occupation is under classification consistency review. It requires stamina, physical agility, dexterity, and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain persons who are often uncooperative, assaultive, and/or armed.
