The Crane Field Service Technician I provides face-to-face customer service located at an off-site location and is responsible for minor troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning of various light and heavy construction equipment.Essential Functions:Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standardsPerforms minor repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervisionPerforms minor troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failuresRemoves and install parts, disassembles and assembles basic componentsTests and verifies proper operation of all repairsPrepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete jobOperates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificatesMaintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of TransportationAdheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulationsMaintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working orderCommunicates job progress to supervisor and customer as neededCompletes assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate time and re-work standardsWorks overtime as required by workload and customers' needsCompletes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient mannerProjects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level TechniciansRequires regular and punctual employee attendancePerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of safe work procedures and practicesBasic knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanceBasic knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electricalDemonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and basic knowledge of machine electronic systemsExceptional skills in customer serviceBasic diagnostic and trouble-shooting skillsPlanning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resourcesOperation and control skills of equipment or systemsEquipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a jobAbility to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writingAbility to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licensesAbility to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstancesAbility to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repairThe ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objectsEducation and Experience:More than one year of heavy equipment experience required; three or more years preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredMSHA certification preferredAir conditioning certification preferredCrane/Rigger certifications preferredSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneTravel:Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stayAdditional Requirements:Valid Driver's license requiredAbility to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving recordMust own required tools to perform repairsPhysical Requirements:Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigueFrequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lbConstant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and staminaAscends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipmentBe able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipmentRoutinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect workWork Environment:Requires wearing common protective or safety equipmentRegularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at timesMay be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidityExposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipmentRequired to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high placesDisclaimer:Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
