We're hiring an apprentice carpenter to support the overall organization, cleanliness, and safety on our job sites and assist subcontractors with basic carpentry tasks. Apprentice carpenters use basic tools to help carpenters and subtrades execute the daily work plan, under the direction of the site foreman and superintendent. This position offers an opportunity to be a part of one-of-a-kind, high-end residential estate builds while developing carpentry skills, and honing one's ability to read and interpret construction drawings.WHAT YOU'LL DOAs an apprentice carpenter, you will:Occasionally perform light carpentry and assist with pickup framing, rough-in, site protection, and finish carpentry as opportunities arise. About 75% of the time on the first project will be assisting subtrades with large scopes of work and site protection.Ask questions to gain a better understanding regarding the proper use of tools and equipmentWork with and ask questions of job leads who are proficient with the use of builder's level to understand building layout and dimensional controlWork with job leads and ask questions to understand framing layout and rough framing of walls, floors and roof systems, how to calculate roof rafters, layout and frame stairs, windows and doorsIdentify when other workers or subcontractors are not working in a safe manner and report unsafe practices to the Foreman or SuperintendentInvest in personal tools and equipment per the required tool list found in this job descriptionUnderstand the dynamics of a busy jobsite, including safety requirements, site organization, and workflowMaintain a safe clean and organized job site: pick up all tools and equipment, and secure job site each day to eliminate potential injury to self and othersOccasional local travel may be required.WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEEDTo be successful as a Dowbuilt apprentice carpenter, you'll need:1-2 years of carpentry experience (residential preferred)Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; occasional driving of a company vehicle may be required for this positionMust complete or already have acquired the appropriate safety training commensurate with the position and locationAbility to follow instructions, take notes and perform work as designatedAbility to be an active listener, ask for help and suggest solutionsDemonstrate discretion and treat all proprietary company information as strictly confidential outside, and in some cases within, the companyA team player attitude, fostering a positive and constructive environment onsiteGood manners and respect for the team, subcontractors, and clientsCommitment to a high level of accuracy and efficiencyDrive to continually learn and develop new skills and capabilitiesBasic knowledge of safety and health procedures (ongoing safety training provided); commitment to safety in action and attitude; reinforce awareness to reduce risk of injury to self and others.Technical and working knowledge of building methods and construction practiceAbility to manage stress and maintain composure in challenging situationsAccountability and trustworthinessAbility to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of peopleAbility to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of tools and materials without assistance or restrictionAbility to climb ladders and stairwaysAbility to work extended hours on your feet on a variety of surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, ramps, stairs, scaffolding, and uneven terrain)Ability to work indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions from extreme cold to extreme hot, wet, dry or humid, and in a dusty environmentU.S. work authorizationWHAT WE OFFERWe are a fun, easygoing bunch of professionals who take a lot of pride in the work we do.
