Position: CarpenterDepartment: Facility ServicesWage/Hour Status: Non-exemptImmediate Supervisor(s): Director of MaintenancePay Grade: Per Compensation ManualDays Employed: Per Compensation ManualPOSITION SUMMARY:* Perform skilled work in the construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures* Maintain district facilities in attractive and safe conditionQUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:* Clear and valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentryAbility to use hand and power toolsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionAbility to read blueprints and diagramsAbility to measure and perform mathematical calculationsAbility to work independently to complete work orders and projectsExperience:* Minimum of 3 years experience as a skilled carpenterMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Access and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection and maintenance proceduresPlan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly following oral instruction, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work ordersSelect material and hardware & calculate time and material estimatesReceive and complete work ordersRespond to emergency calls as needed during and after normal working hoursMaintain accurate records on material and labor usedInspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and excess materials are removedRemove, install, and repair various types of commercial flooring, including carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, etc.Remove, install, and repair various types of commercial ceilingsMaintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materialsSafety:Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating conditionFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbingOperate tools and equipment according to established safety proceduresCorrect unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisorFollow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilitiesFollow district safety protocols and emergency proceduresEXPECTATIONS OF MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this jobTools/Equipment Used: Standard carpentry equipment including small hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; ladders, lifts, light truck or vanMotion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and material, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards.
