Summer Internship - Stream RestorationAbout Westervelt Ecological ServicesWestervelt EcologicalServices (WES) creates mitigation and conservation banks and providesenvironmental mitigation and habitat planning services to landowners,businesses, government agencies, and land trusts. Our team of industry leadersspecializes in wetland and endangered species mitigation, stream restoration,and ecological planning across Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. Our missionis to deliver enduring ecological solutions that benefit both our stakeholdersand the lands we conserve.Position OverviewWe are seeking passionateand experienced Stream Restoration Interns to join our Auburn, Alabama officefor the Summer of 2026. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to assistin identifying new restoration sites and contribute to technical reporting anddata analysis. Interns will gain valuable field experience in streamgeomorphology, ecological assessment, and restoration planning.Ahousing allowance will be provided for students who are required to relocate for the position.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in reconnaissance efforts to identify potential stream restoration sitesCollect and process stream geomorphic data using RiverMorphSupport development of monitoring reports and technical documentationPerform baseline assessments of stream conditions, including habitat evaluations and geomorphological measurementsNavigate remote locations for fieldwork using GPS and traditional mapping toolsCollaborate with team members and stakeholders in both field and office settingsRequirementsActively pursuing a degree in engineering, landscape architecture, forestry, wildlife biology, biology, environmental studies, ecology, or a related field (must have completed at least sophomore year; master's students preferred)Basic knowledge of stream ecology, assessment methods, and Southeastern landscapesSurveying experience (differential leveling) preferred but not requiredStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; statistics coursework preferredExposure to RiverMorph, CAD, or similar software preferredValid driver's license and ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicleStrong navigation skills using maps, compass, and GPS unitsPhysically fit and able to work in challenging terrain and weather conditionsHighly motivated, critical thinker, and adaptable to dynamic work schedules, including overnight travel and long field daysCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive internship payHousing allowance provided for students who are required to relocate for the positionField experience in stream restoration and ecological monitoringMentorship from experienced restoration professionalsOpportunities for career development and networking in environmental conservationEqual Opportunity Employer: Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran/GenderIdentity/Sexual Orientation
