Together, we can continue to provide exceptional care to our community.We are currently seeking a Director of Laboratory Services.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Compliance & Accreditation Serves as the CLIA Director of Laboratory Services for Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Ensures compliance with CLIA, CMS Conditions of Participation, IDPH, OSHA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations Maintains laboratory licensure, certifications, and inspection readiness at all times Prepares for and manages regulatory surveys and inspections Develops, reviews, and approves laboratory policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures Laboratory Operations Provides oversight of all laboratory testing services including, but not limited to: Chemistry Hematology Urinalysis Blood Bank and transfusion services Point-of-care testing Ensures accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of laboratory results Oversees specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting Coordinates send-out testing and reference laboratory relationships Maintains appropriate test menus aligned with provider and patient needs Quality Assurance & Patient Safety Leads laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities Monitors key quality indicators such as turnaround times, critical value reporting, and error tracking Investigates, documents, and resolves laboratory incidents and nonconformances Collaborates with nursing, medical staff, and leadership to support patient safety initiatives Personnel Management Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates laboratory personnel Ensures staff competency assessments, continuing education, and licensure/certification compliance Provides leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities Assists with staffing coverage and performs bench testing as needed in a rural hospital environment Financial & Resource Management Develops and manages the laboratory operating budget Oversees supply chain management, inventory control, and capital equipment planning Evaluates vendor contracts and reference laboratory agreements Implement cost-control measures while maintaining quality and compliance Leadership & Collaboration Serves as a clinical and technical resource to providers and hospital leadership Participation in hospital committees, medical staff meetings, and leadership initiatives Supports emergency preparedness, after-hours, weekend, and on-call laboratory services Contributes to strategic planning and service development for Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Education & ExperienceRequired: Meets CLIA qualifications for Director of Laboratory Services Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience Prior supervisory or leadership experience Preferred: Experience working in a Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare setting ASCP or equivalent professional certification Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field Licensure & Certification ASCP (or equivalent) certification preferred Current Illinois laboratory licensure as required Eligible and qualified to serve as CLIA Director of Laboratory Services Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations and accreditation standards Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) Ability to perform clinical testing and provide on-call support as needed Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for laboratory testing Work performed in a laboratory and clinical hospital environment Salary & Benefits: Salary: The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
