Meat Department Manager

Position Title: Meat Department Manager Department: Meat Supervisor: Assistant Branch Manager/Branch Manager FLSA: Non-exempt (Paid by the hour) Position Summary: As a Meat Department Manager, you will take charge of product receiving and ensure that aisles, freezers, and refrigerators are perfectly stocked, labeled, and clean. You will be responsible for exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest standards in the department. Essential Functions: Deliver outstanding customer service while fostering relationships with key customers. Oversee all operations within the meat department, focusing on product placement, rotation, signage, and overall cleanliness in accordance with government and corporate regulations. Develop employee schedules, monitor performance, and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions. Train staff on job duties and safe practices. Participate in the hiring process by interviewing candidates and making recommendations. Address employee disciplinary issues and recommend terminations when needed. Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations through regular inspections and audits. Conduct daily inventory reviews to prevent shrinkage and damages. Verify accuracy of shelf pricing, ensuring it reflects current market conditions. Supervise the receipt of all meat products and complete the required paperwork. Maintain accurate computer inventory levels through regular physical counts and adjustments. Ensure proper maintenance of refrigerated equipment following set contracts and schedules. Manage product ordering from vendors to maintain competitive pricing and minimize spoilage. Train employees on the use of equipment such as Toledo scales and Dennison label machines. Ensure pallets in storage are appropriately tagged for inventory management. Implement a regular cleaning maintenance schedule for the department. Manage excess inventory to optimize storage efficiency. Oversee trash removal and ensure a clean working environment. Communicate low stock or out-of-stock situations to the Inventory Controller. Maintain accurate signage and promotional flyers throughout the department. Coordinate effective merchandising strategies for the aisles, ensuring logical placements and attractive setups for impulse buys. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Conduct weekly self-audits of the Meat department. Other Responsibilities: Perform other work-related duties as required. Education, Experience and Skills Required: Bachelor's Degree, OR High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of customer service experience, OR a suitable combination of education and experience. Proficient in reading and interpreting business publications, journals, and technical documentation. Ability to effectively present information and answer questions from management, clients, and the general public. Strong mathematical skills, including calculations for discounts, interest, proportions, and more. Excellent oral and written communication skills. High-level interpersonal skills for handling sensitive and confidential matters. Commitment to company values and a strong customer focus. Computer literacy is essential. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry for short distances. Frequent lifting/carrying of items over 12 times per hour at 50 lbs and constant lifting/carrying of items over 30 times per hour at 20 lbs. Stand/walk constantly; occasionally reach above shoulder level, twist/turn head, bend, climb steps/ladder, and kneel/squat. Work Environment: Regular exposure to cold/freezing temperatures. Working with equipment in motion (forklifts, electric pallet jacks, scooters).
