The medical center provides acute and specialized medical and surgical services, residential outpatient treatment programs in substance abuse and post-traumatic stress and a full range of mental health and long-term care services, as well as sub-acute and restorative rehabilitation services and a domiciliary.An active graduate medical education program exists at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System. Residents receive training in the areas of general internal medicine, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, urology and geriatrics. Additionally, medical students from the University of Iowa and Des Moines University receive training at VA CIHCS. Academic affiliations include the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Des Moines area Medical Education Consortium, Inc., and Des Moines University with numerous internship programs in allied health professions.Basic Responsibilities: (Both Outpatient & Inpatient Psychiatrists are needed) Treatment and professional direction of outpatient/inpatient care as well as outpatient/inpatient care consultations. Provide professional direction and participate in the treatment team to evaluate, develop and implement treatment plans. Develop and implement follow-up plans. Participate in organization meetings and duties of the VA Medical Center as required. Clinical competence will include: Psychiatric Examinations Diagnostic Formulation Therapeutic Plan Patient Management Discharge summaries Record Keeping/electronic medical records Current practice experience with acute outpatient and inpatient treatment with working knowledge of current pharmacology Current practice experience in completion of involuntary commitment procedures per North Carolina state statues The psychiatrist may answer inpatient consultations. Other duties, as assigned by mutual agreement between the locum tenens and the COR or Contracting Officer. Qualifications/Requirements Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of Medicine. Must have successfully completed a residency program in psychiatry which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association or those Canadian training programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other appropriate Canadian medical authority. Must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Association. Must be in good standing, and under no restrictions, with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held. Must maintain current certification in American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
