Work under general supervision of the Executive Director for Special Education and immediate direction of a certified Special Education teacher.QUALIFICATIONS:Certification/Education:? High school diploma or GED? Valid Texas Educational Aide CertificateSpecial Knowledge/ Skills:? Ability to work with children with disabilities? Ability to follow verbal and written instructions? Ability to communicate effectively? Knowledge of general office equipmentExperience:? Two years of experience working with children with disabilitiesMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Instructional Support1. Assist teacher by preparing instructional materials2. Assist teacher in re-teaching IEP related goals and objectives3. Assist teacher with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment4. Assist teacher in maintaining administrative records (data collection) and preparing required reports5. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers6. Assist teacher in routine Adult Transition Program management duties7. Assist in orienting students to their Adult Transition Program schedule and/or supervising/shadowing students in the community settingStudent Management8. Be aware of student's various medical concerns, condition9. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning10. Ability to push and pull up to 35 lbs11. Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene12. Assist teacher in managing behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed13. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs14. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher15. Assist supervising students throughout the school day including community settings16. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual studentsOther17. Maintain confidentiality18. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned19. Uphold and enforce school district rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy20.
