DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for assisting Physicians and/or Mid-level Providers in the clinic setting and in other settings such as the hospital and within the DME department. Duties include: fitting and education of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as prescribed by the physician, the application and removal of casts, coordinates and advises on all aspects of the DME program including insurance and billing. Acts as a liaison between staff, physician, and DME supervisor and manager. Assists in general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and exam rooms.Essential Job Functions/AccountabilitiesEnsures that proper patient forms are complete, current, and entered into the computer. Checks EMR for progress notes and stat orders, prepares charge tickets and acts on any stat orders.Enter DME charges with appropriate modifiers based on insurance requirements. Athletic Trainer (ATC) conducts accurate dispensing of DME in the inventory management system.Athletic Trainer (ATC) obtains authorizations from insurance companies for patient durable medical equipment. Checks patients' insurance benefits and provides detailed explanation of coverage and benefits to the patients per DME guidelines. Fits patients with prescribed orthosis. This includes patient evaluation, modification and fitting, training the patient on fit and function, as well as answer any DME questions.Scheduling DME appointments for patients and sending referrals to the appropriate vendor based on insurance restrictions to ensure patients are able to obtain the prescribed medical equipment. Athletic Trainer (ATC) will provide back-up coverage and assists in daily office routine when needed in other areas.Monitors and maintains office equipment; Orders office supplies, orthopaedic/medical equipment, and supplies. Cleans, sterilizes, and stocks/maintains examination rooms and equipment. Maintains cleanliness of all clinical areas and exam rooms; restocks and orders supplies within budgetary constraints; checks and cleans equipment, makes minor adjustments, reports need for repair or maintenance to manager.Assists physicians and/or physician's assistant with special procedures, gathers necessary equipment of instruments, positions patient and responds to instructions given by physician or mid-level provider. Removal of dressing and wraps; application and removal of casts and splints. Application and patient education on DME. Gathers necessary data and instructional materials for discharged patients, ensures that patient is aware of any necessary follow-up appointment times and locations.Provides patient education on physician's plan of care (hand-outs/return demonstration etc.). Athletic Trainer (ATC) ensures charge tickets are marked appropriately for equipment and supplies are given to patient. Attends in-services and departmental meetings.All other duties not specifically assigned.Position RequirementsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited university athletic training program required.Experience: 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as an Athletic Trainer or related field preferred.Technical Skills: N/ACertifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current license issued by the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy/Athletic Training (OTPTAT) Board to practice Athletic Training in the State of Ohio required; Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC), Inc. for Athletic Trainers preferred; BLS required.RequirementsSchedule: Monday-Friday; 1st ShiftStatus: Full-Time 40 hours per week
