Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, contribute to service at the Department, School, and/or University level, and are expected to build an active research program with external funding. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in the areas of materials and devices for power conversion and battery systems, advanced packaging materials and methods for high power semiconductor and energy systems, energy systems modeling and simulation, thermal management, and critical materials for semiconductor and energy systems. Additional areas of interest include novel battery materials, novel methodologies for sustainable and smart manufacturing, and incorporation of artificial intelligence, machine learning and/or digital twins in materials science research. Outstanding candidates in advanced micro- and nanoelectronics, CMOS extension and beyond, 3D integration, semiconductor process development, and materials characterization for semiconductor devices will be considered. The appointments commence for the fall 2026 semester. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, and other related disciplines)is required prior to joining; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering Located in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the U.S., The University of Texas at Dallas is a young, growing research institution on the cutting edge of science, technology, business, and the arts. Since its conception by Texas Instruments' founders McDermott, Jonsson, and Green, the University's teaching mission has continuously expanded, its external research funding has nearly doubled in recent years, and the University has established itself as a national leader in research and development of key technologies. The Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Department focuses on research at the cutting edge of materials, physical, and chemical sciences, and their related applications and technologies. A facility of particular relevance for the faculty positions is the $85 million landmark Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory (NSERL), which hosts a fully furnished clean room. The MSE Department currently has 17 full-time and joint faculty members and supports approximately 80 graduate students and offers MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and is expected to offer a BS in Materials Science and Engineering starting fall 2026. Areas of research expertise include advanced micro- and nanoelectronics, artificial intelligence (AI), catalysis, sensing, biomedical devices, flexible electronics, photovoltaics, and batteries.
