PARA PROFESSIONAL:Summary: Objective is to assist the teacher achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED 48 college credits, or an AA Degree or a successful passing score on the ParaPro PRAXIS test Essential Duties and Responsibilities DUTIES: Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher. Operates and cares for the equipment used in the classroom. Reads to students, listens to the students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with the students. Assists in checking and recording student attendance. Helps maintain individual records for students; assists with daily, quarterly or yearly clerical duties as requested by the teacher. Substitutes for classroom teacher in his/her absence if asked by the building administrator. Alerts teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers. Participates in all family nights, programs, and extra-curricular activities at the school as assigned by the building administrator. Supervises recess, breakfast, lunch, hallways, busing and restrooms as assigned. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. Continuously responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students. Participates in In-Service training/workshops/programs as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
