Position SummaryThis position is responsible for assisting the Recreation Coordinator and Assistant Recreation Coordinator in the planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of educational and mentorship activities for the Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School Program.Position DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerforms duties related to the planning, preparation, operation, and evaluation of educational activities.Facilitates and leads tutorial sessions of various subjects with individual students or small groups for students in grades 6th through 12th.Supervises, directs and leads all participants in a variety of daily, weekly or monthly indoor and outdoor educational activities and field trips for students in grades 4th through 12th.Assists in planning and organizing events and activities for positive character and social development of diversified youth.Provides quality customer service to program participants and guardians.Delivers accurate and timely reports of injuries, safety issues, damage to property, needed repairs, and low inventories of supplies to the attention of the Recreation Coordinator.Follows verbal and written instructions from superiors and ensures the timely and quality completion of those assigned tasks.Follows, practices, and helps enforce all rules and safety standards for the program.Performs duties and makes decisions consistent with department mission, vision, and core values.Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITIONKnowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Audio Visual, and internet browsing. Knowledge of current state and local curriculum at the middle and high school levels and national standardized tests. Knowledge of computers and job-relates software programs.Skill in problem solving.Skill in interpersonal relations.Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in the use of computers, copy machines, fax machines, and phones.Skill in working with diverse youth groups.Skill in conflict resolution.SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Recreation Coordinator and the Assistant Recreation Coordinator assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherences to instructions and established guidelines.GUIDELINESGuidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are clear and specific.COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to assist with educational and mentorship after school programs and services. Successful performance contributes to the delivery of quality programming to residents.CONTACTSContacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, parents and students.Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while standing, while sitting at a desk or table, or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, utilizes tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. The employee may participate in leading programs and activities.The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYNone.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAbility to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is preferred.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.The qualifications listed above represent the credentials necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
