This position manages the maintenance team, coordinates with other district leaders, and develops both short- and long-term plans to preserve and improve district facilitiesEssential Job Functions Supervise and evaluate the performance of maintenance staff, providing leadership, direction, and support. Manage and prioritize maintenance requests through the district's work order system, ensuring timely and accurate documentation. Plan and schedule routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs for all district facilities and equipment. Evaluate the life expectancy of buildings, systems, and equipment to guide long-term maintenance and replacement planning Monitor and implement the district's Master Facility Plan, including capital improvement projects. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure comfort, energy efficiency, and proper equipment performance. Ensure compliance with state building codes, safety standards, and occupational health regulations. Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment; utilize the requisition system to order items as needed. Manage the maintenance budget, balancing immediate needs with long-term facility goals. Collaborate with other district directors and administrators to solve cross-departmental challenges and support districtwide operations. Prepare and maintain detailed records and reports on maintenance work, inspections, and expenditures. Perform and oversee maintenance tasks including minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs as needed. Coordinate snow and ice removal, field preparation, and other groundskeeping duties to ensure safety and usability. Open, secure, and close facilities as needed, ensuring all buildings are locked, safe, and properly maintained. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. Participates in cabinet-level meetings to provide facility updates and contribute to district planning discussions. Equipment & Safety Hand and power tools, HVAC controls, groundskeeping equipment, and related maintenance machinery. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment. Wears appropriate safety gear and ensures staff do the same. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong leadership and team management skills. Technical proficiency in computerized building systems, including HVAC controls, lighting, and work order management. Proficient in the use of email, Google, and Microsoft Office products; willing to learn and implement other software applications. Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and procedures used in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical trades. Understanding of state building codes and safety regulations. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance and repair issues efficiently. Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, manuals, and technical documents. Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, administrators, and external contractors. Proficient in budget management, work order tracking, and preventive maintenance programs. Travel RequirementsFrequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Ability to perform occasional strenuous physical work, including climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces. Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade. Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: High School Diploma or equivalent; advanced technical or trade certification preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in building and grounds maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Demonstrated technical skill with computerized systems used in building operations and maintenance Knowledge and experience in preventative maintenance and facility management. Experience with HV control systems Knowledge of and a working experience with a sound preventative maintenance program Demonstrated experience in one or more trades (e.g., mechanic, plumber, electrician). Valid motor vehicle operator's license and reliable transportation.
