Roadway Designer We are seeking a motivated civil engineering designer to join our public works group, focusing on transportation and roadway projects. The position involves design, calculation, and plan preparation from concept design through bid drawings, with opportunities for construction administration. Projects include complex urban and rural roadways, streetscapes, intersection improvements and roundabouts, safety improvements, beautification projects, and trails/shared use paths. Responsibilities: Support the design and development of transportation projects. Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Assist in performing geometric design, horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, and drainage design. Conduct site visits and field investigations as needed to support design and construction activities. Collaborate with project managers, tenured engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality projects. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. Prepare technical reports, calculations, and documentation for project deliverables. Participate in meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders. Support permitting, utility coordination, and construction administration tasks. Maintain project documentation and assist with project scheduling and budgeting. Essential Skills: Proficiency in Microstation, Openroads, and Civil 3D. Experience in roadway and transportation design. Ability to prepare engineering plans and specifications. Capability to conduct site visits and field investigations. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Associates or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 0-5 years of roadway/transportation design experience. Experience in Civil 3D and/or Openroads. EIT certification or ability to obtain it in the near future is a plus. Bridge engineering experience is a plus. Work Environment: The work environment offers Friday half-days and is ideally in-office, but there is flexibility for a hybrid model, likely 2 days remote for the right candidate. Some team members work fully remote, although they have been with the company for an extended period. The company provides specialized training with a licensed engineer and offers significant growth opportunities. Projects are prominent and local to Central Ohio, allowing you to see your work in the community. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
