Our client is in need of your expertise This role involves direct reporting to the Vice President of Underwriting, overseeing daily operations. You will manage staff, training, workflow, performance evaluations, and the professional growth of the underwriting team. It is essential to establish and uphold underwriting guidelines, procedures, and standards for risk selection that reflect the company's philosophy and shared values. Additionally, you will act as a referral point and a mentor, offering advice on complex, atypical, or borderline risks. Providing coaching to underwriters on effective communication techniques for handling challenging or intricate situations, agency relationships, or difficult accounts is also part of the role. Regular quality assurance assessments will be conducted to ensure that high underwriting standards are maintained, while also mentoring team members. You will collaborate with the VP of Underwriting to enhance existing products and create new solutions that respond to marketplace demands. Together with the Marketing Director, you will perform market research and competitor assessments to pinpoint areas for product innovation or enhancement. Fostering and sustaining robust agency relationships is crucial, focusing on profitable growth and shared success. You will also work alongside underwriters and marketing teams to support struggling agencies and grow opportunities with promising partners.A bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or a related discipline is required. An underwriting designation such as INS, AU, or equivalent is mandatory; CPCU or CIC is preferred. You should possess 8 to 10 years of underwriting experience in property and casualty, covering both commercial and personal lines. Prior experience in supervisory roles or team leadership is strongly desired. Familiarity with field underwriting, agency management, and mutual insurance operations would be advantageous. Experience in product development and regulatory filing is highly sought after. Knowledge of MSO forms and manuals is a bonus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard underwriting software is expected, with ImageRight experience considered a preference. A strong commitment to the principles of mutuality and service-focused underwriting is essential.
