The incumbent serves as an Athletic Trainer, providing a full range of athletic training services to MPD and MPA employees; as well as other health-related activities as assigned.The incumbent will be responsible for the following:•Responsible for the administration and operation of the Injury Care and Prevention Program of the MPD and MPA.•Performs prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of injuries/conditions related to athletic or work related training activities for MPD and the MPA.•Designs rehabilitative programs utilizing various modalities and prescriptive exercise; administers various types of modalities and prescriptive exercises.•Responsible for the inventory, re-supply, maintenance and replacement of clinic equipment and materials.•Works in coordination with Police and Fire Clinic Staff, Physical Training Staff, and other safety and health related positions.•Develops and administers physical performance tests.•Confers with physicians regarding abnormal results requiring physician intervention.•Communicates with Risk Management claims managers and insurance adjusters on the status of work-related injuries.•Communicates with Risk Management claims managers and insurance adjusters to assure proper record-keeping and reporting.•Ensures current, accurate and complete evaluation and treatment records.•Maintains medical records, injury reports and progress in accordance with MPD and MPA policies.•Develops and distributes annual reports of fiscal responsibility and program development.•Communicates with MPA supervisors, MPD employee supervisors on status of employee as needed.•Communicates with treating physicians with patient progress notes, email, telephone calls; refers employees to other healthcare providers as needed.•Communicates with nurses and case managers as applicable for each employee; communicates with employees to assure compliance with individual treatment protocol.•Maintains ethical and professional standards of practice.•Assists the Physical Skills Unit Supervisors and physical training staff in the development and implementation of the physical training program.•Develops and presents various training and educational materials and programs to employees.•Maintains BOC certification and stays current on best practices for the evaluation and treatment of employees through annual attendance of approved continuing education.•Ensures clinical practice is in compliance with Washington D.C. Law.•Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications•Thorough knowledge of and the ability to administer various modality treatments, prescriptive exercise programs, primary injury assessment and to provide appropriate care.•Knowledge of the operation and care of clinic equipment. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively use a variety of technology and software.•Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, physicians, other healthcare providers, risk management and insurance adjusters.•Must be skilled in conducting standard physical fitness tests and use of standard testing equipment; recognize risk factors and causes of athletic injuries in various sports.Education•Certification by the Board of Certification, INC; Must hold license in DC or able to hold license in DC to practice•Bachelor/Master's degree with specialization in Exercise Science, Athletic Training or other related fields;•3 -5 years' experience in military, law enforcement, or collegiate or professional sports athletic training settingRECOMMENDED CERTIFICATIONS•National Strength & Conditioning Association, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) or Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)•Functional Movement background or certification•National Athletic Training Association (NATA) and for administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)Work ExperienceApplicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-12 grade level in the District of Columbia government or its non-District equivalent, gained from the private or public sector.Work EnvironmentWork is performed in an office, clinic, classroom setting, fitness center, and outdoors. The duties associated with athletic training exposes the incumbent to possible strains when lifting injured or when treating injured participants. Both the instructional and athletic training duties expose the employee to the possibility of contagious diseases; and is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids.
