Pass the Para Pro exam or have educational equivalency REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher, Special Education Director, Building PrincipalSUPERVISES: Students which could include Special Education and English Language Learners students depending on the assignment.JOB GOAL: To assist the classroom teacher to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Guides independent study and remedial work which is set up and assigned by the teacher. Assists with group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling. Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs. Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task. Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision. Constructs, copies and distributes and uses educational materials as needed. Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students. Assist with student personal care and hygiene needs as required, which may include toileting, feeding, handwashing, and other activities of daily living, while maintaining the student's dignity and safety. Communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, and all staff members. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers. Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned. Administers, scores, and records such achievements and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students. Assist with other various duties which are essential in the routine operation of the classroom/school, which are assigned. Works with students focusing on a variety of school subjects in both General Education and Special Education settings as requested by administration. May be assigned to work with students of various grade levels including prekindergarten through fifth grades. May be assigned to work at either Camden Early Childhood Center, Delphi Community Elementary School, Delphi Community Middle School, or Delphi Community High School depending on the position assignment. Helps to create and maintain a positive workplace environment and culture of collaboration. Report any and all injuries to the immediate supervisor, filling out the appropriate forms. Report any and all hazardous situations/areas which are considered to be unsafe to the immediate supervisor, filling out necessary forms. Conform to all rules and regulations of the school and comply with all federal, state, and local laws relating directly or indirectly to the employee's duties. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Teacher/Building Principal may assign.. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:184 days/5.75 - 6.75 hours
