The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is seeking a dynamic, organized, and forward-thinking leader to serve as the Office Manager 1 in our Food Safety & Animal Health Division, based in Salem. This key position plays a vital role in safeguarding Oregon's Food Safety & Animal Health while supporting the agricultural backbone of our state.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture Food Safety Program is to help prevent the spread of food-borne illness and working to ensure the consumer gets food that is not contaminated, mis-labeled, mis-represented, or changed in any way that would impair safety, wholesomeness or purity.

The Animal Health programs are to enhance economic production of livestock. We accomplish this through working toward the control and eradication of animal diseases (including those transmissible to humans), prevent livestock theft by denying a market for stolen animals through recording of brands and inspection of animals, and ensuring animal feeds meet nutritional and labeling standards.

What you'll be doing:

As the Food Safety & Animal Health Office Manager 1, you'll assists in the management of the Food Safety and Animal Health Program area through supervision and participation in administrative and business support activities associated with the program's central office. The Office Manager manages the workflow of the division's support staff; interprets and explains licensing laws, regulations and procedures to current and potential licensees; and provides services, supplies, written materials. This position works with other program area staff to coordinate the dissemination of agency information through web page, media contacts, written materials, calls and conferences.

This Office Manager 1 is a full-time, permanent management service, position, located in Salem, Oregon and is not represented by a union.

Working Conditions:

This position works in-person with normal office hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Requires frequent use of a computer, which includes repetitious hand movement. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be facing challenging circumstances or highly stressful situations, including hostile or agitated groups or individuals. At times, a fast-paced work environment with multiple demands and interruptions. Work is performed in a cubical office environment which may at times include audible distractions. Evening meetings and longer hours required on occasion to meet specific program needs. May require infrequent overnight domestic travel. Limited hybrid work may be available dependent on division needs and operations.

What are we looking for?

To Qualify for the Position, You Need:

  • Three years of administrative support experience. Two years of which must be at a full-performance level and include monitoring or auditing a program or operation, preparing narrative and statistical reports, establishing and maintaining procedures, and the evaluation of projects, processes, and operations. One of the two years must include lead work responsibility over office support staff (i.e., assigning and reviewing work of others).
  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to provide a satisfactory alternate mode of transportation is required.
