About SISTAH Magazine

SISTAH Magazine is a cultural publication dedicated to restoring the image, voice, and lived experience of Black women. We spotlight stories of womanhood, creative empowerment, wellness, identity, spirituality, arts & culture, and community evolution. We publish digital and print issues, host community-centered programs, and develop multimedia storytelling formats that honor the complexity of our narratives.

Position Overview

We are seeking thoughtful, curious, and culturally-aware Writer Interns to join our editorial team. This role is ideal for emerging writers who are passionate about storytelling, journalism, research, and amplifying the voices of Black women. Interns will support the creation of articles, interviews, profiles, social content, and editorial features under the guidance of the Editor-in-Chief.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch, research, and write articles aligned with the magazine's voice and editorial themes
  • Conduct interviews with featured guests, creatives, founders, and community members
  • Assist with fact-checking, sourcing, and editorial research
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop story angles and publication timelines
  • Draft blog and social copy that aligns with SISTAH's tone and cultural messaging
  • Participate in weekly editorial check-ins for feedback and development
  • Optional: Support special projects, digital series, and live discussions/panels

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong writing skills with a creative or journalistic voice
  • Deep cultural awareness and sensitivity to topics affecting Black women and the African diaspora
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow editorial feedback with grace and openness
  • Curious, reflective thinker with a passion for storytelling and social discourse
  • Comfortable conducting light interviews and synthesizing research
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Canva, or basic publishing workflow is helpful (not required)
