Progressive Life Center, Inc. (PLC) provides culturally-sensitivity human services to children, youth and families in the District of Columbia and surrounding Maryland, throughout Greater Philadelphia, and in most of Delaware. Program Summary
The Family Strength programaddresses the urgent needs of vulnerable residents in Prince George's County, Maryland, who are victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence. Our comprehensive program provides culturally sensitive support and interventions to enhance the safety, well-being, and empowerment of these vulnerable populations while seeking to develop an evidence-based model for duplication.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide direct individual and family counseling to the non-abusive parent, child, youth, and family.
- Incorporate and use PLC's NTU Health and Healing service delivery model.
- Provide culturally relevant, trauma-informed, and evidence-informed interventions for individuals and families affected by abuse, domestic violence, and other traumas.
- Serve 8 families per quarter.
- Interview victims of domestic violence, abuse, or other traumas to obtain information on their history, living needs, safety, resources, coping abilities, etc.
- Document interactions (e.g., meetings, phone calls, etc.) with client.
- Complete and maintain accurate case files on clients in accordance with state, local, contractual, federal and/or PLC regulations.
- Collaborate with advocates to refer clients to community resources.
- Provide on-call emergency response services.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with local community providers, local and state agents.
- Attend and participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend regular supervision with supervisor.
- Participate in trainings to increase knowledge of domestic and sexual violence fields.
- Stay abreast of trends, literature, and best practices for domestic and sexual violence.
- Participate in special projects and assignments required to ensure the effectiveness of services provided and the overall program.
- Enter and maintain accurate data into program specific and PLC database systems.
- Other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed as an LCPC or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience providing services to traumatized individuals.
- Experience utilizing trauma-informed care practices.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault dynamics.
- Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflict.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and web-based databases.
- Valid driver's license and owner of a reliable vehicle. Ability to travel within the region and other PLC offices.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to support clients.
- Certification in NTU service delivery model within one year of hire.

Physical Demands

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, mobile device and computer printer); Manual dexterity needed for using a mobile device, calculator and computer keyboard.
- Must be able to position self to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must have ability to navigate stairwells.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with employees/customers/clients; and must be able to exchange accurate information by perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information.
- Frequently move files weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office space.
- Must be able to participate in fire drills or other drills during an emergency.
- Must be able to face a significant amount of emotional stress which can cause related physical stress on muscles as well as other physical symptoms such as headaches and fatigue.
Work Environment
Normal office environment, but also may travel, to meet with service providers, and/or attend meetings at schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, private practices, faith-based environments, prisons, corporations, and numerous public and private agencies.
