Reports To: Therapy Services Supervisor

Days/Hours: / Days: Monday-Friday. Hours are based on client needs between the hours of 9am to 9pm Monday – Thursday and 9am-6pm on Friday. Hours may vary depending on agency's or client's needs.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed preferred or Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy (or the equivalent) from an accredited university or college in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or related human service with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with children with serious emotional disturbances, trauma, abuse, and/or neglect issues.
  • Experience in play therapy, infant mental health, Brazelton's Touchpoints Model, Child Parent Psychotherapy or other similar child/family therapy model preferred.
  • Clinical experience providing therapeutic services to infants/toddlers and their caregivers/legal guardians. Background in early childhood development or basic understanding of appropriate parent-infant dynamics.
  • Valid Florida driver's license. Safe driving record. Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance
  • Bilingual Spanish Required for 2 positions Bilingual Preferred for 1 position.

Workplace Location(s): Women In Distress' Family Center and Satellite locations.

Position Summary: The Child and Family Therapist will provide ongoing therapeutic services to children and their families at the Moran Family Center and Satellite locations as needed. Therapist will work closely with the Family Therapy Supervisor and Family Advocates to create efficient and engaging programs for children and their families. The therapist will ensure that all services provided are empowerment-based and are consistent with Department of Children and Families (DCF) standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides support and crisis intervention to children age 0-17 and their non-offending caregiver/legal guardian.
  • Facilitates individual, group, and family therapy sessions using play therapy techniques and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Completes bio-psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, safety plans, and goal reviews as required.
  • Uses psycho-education with parents/legal guardians to build healthy attachments with their children and increase knowledge of developmental stages/needs of infants/toddlers.
  • Serves as an agency representative to community organizations whose primary effects target toward meeting children's needs.
  • Works closely with the non-offending parent/legal guardian and other advocates to identify the appropriate community services for children including educational, social services, legal, medical and other needs.
  • In conjunction with the Family Therapy Supervisor, works to create programs and an environment of best practices for working with children ages 0-5 who have been affected by domestic violence.
  • Reports child abuse as required and notifies supervisor.
  • The Child and Family Therapist will ensure that all services provided are empowerment-based and are consistent with Department of Children and Families (DCF) standards.

Additional requirements: Employee will be required to take the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.

Pay: $28.00 per hour
