Technical Clinical Laboratory Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Under the leadership Laboratory Services Operations Manager, the Clinical Analyst will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Informatics and Point of Care Testing.
- Daily Operation: Assists the Operations Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory Department in the areas of Point of Care Testing and Informatics.
- Patient Flow: Is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient patient flow systems; ensures development and consistent implementation of tools to ensure patient satisfaction with service as measured by satisfaction scores; responds to and resolves complaints.
- Patient Care: Works with Laboratory, Medical, and Nursing staff to foster collaborative relationships and ensure consistent and integrated approach to providing services.
- Policies, protocols, and Safety: Works collaboratively with Technical Laboratory Supervisors, Phlebotomy Coordinators, Client Services, Pathologists, Nursing, Medical staff, and other constituencies to develop and implement policies and procedures to comply with rules, regulations, and state and federal law; ensures practices to support patient safety.
- CQI & QA: Responsible for working with Technical Laboratory Supervisors, Phlebotomy Coordinators, Client Services, and Pathologists for the development and participation in both CQI and QA yearly plans and activities (as approved by the Director).
- Budget and Strategic planning: Will assist in evaluating expenditures and make recommendations to ensure operations are within budget. Will take part in strategic planning and budget development each year.
- Staff Training/ orientation: Responsible for oversight for training and orientation functions that are employee-centered, competency-based based and timely.
- Regulatory Compliance: Responsible for assisting in the compliance of the Laboratory with the Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulating agencies' requirements. Works cohesively with the Technical Laboratory Supervisors, Phlebotomy Coordinators, Pathologists, Nursing, and Medical staff, and assures compliance of each employee.
- Equipment maintenance: Assist with ensuring adequate equipment maintenance and that all equipment complies with regulatory requirements and calibration standards.
- Equipment vendors and Biomed: Assist in being a liaison with both equipment vendors and Biomed Services.
- Department Projects: May be assigned responsibility for participating in or leading department projects, such as but not limited to ARRA Meaningful Use, ICD-10 implementation, Point of Care Testing menu changes, and LEAN Process improvement.
- Inventory: Responsible for the ordering and management of inventory for POCT.
- Meetings: Will attend and participate in all department meetings and attend organizational, nursing, or medical staff meetings as requested or assigned.
- Departmental Liaison: Responsible for being a liaison between Providers, Nursing, Patient Access, and Laboratory to ensure the best possible patient care experience.
- Subject Matter Expert: Responsible for acting as and mentoring SME in areas assigned.
- Positive, encouraging, and promotional: Responsible for always setting the example of positive interactions, encouraging actions, and promoting co-workers, providers, the hospital, and the medical group.
- Other duties as assigned by the leadership team.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Five years' experience as a clinical lab scientist as a generalist in a hospital setting. Specialty certification desired. Two years of computer technical school and/or two years' experience working directly in the computer field may be substituted for the 4-year degree if directly applicable to this position. Background with Meditech, CPOE, and LEAN implementation desired.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Montana is required.
