The Vice President of Finance is responsible for leading the credit union's financial strategy and ensuring operational excellence across accounting and risk/compliance functions. This role provides strategic direction for financial performance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and policy management, while fostering a culture of accountability and transparency. The VP of Finance collaborates with the executive team and vice president team to align financial strategies with organizational goals, safeguard assets, and support sustainable growth.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead, Manage and Accountability: Committed to leading and managing in a way that creates an environment in which accountable employees thrive, and non-accountable people choose to leave. Effectively utilizes people analyzer to find right people, right seats.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the executive and vice president and finance leadership teams in all discussions relevant to asset and liability management, financial performance, analysis and reporting and compliance and risk management. Participates in developing and evaluating the credit union's short- and long-term strategic goals and objectives and communicates such goals and objectives to credit union staff members.
  • Focus on Purpose: Focused on credit union purpose of creating financial wellness in our community through everyday banking with an emphasis on our internal team development
  • Safety and Soundness: Monitor the safety and soundness of the credit union through financial reporting, enterprise risk management, compliance, auditing and reporting programs.
  • Accountability Measurement and Coaching: Acts as a resource for all managers to best hold their team to accountability measurements and offers coaching assistance. Serves as a mentor to help build confidence and skills within management team.
  • Asset/Liability and Financial Performance Strategy: Develop and execute strategies for asset/liability management, liquidity, and capital planning to optimize financial performance and ensure long-term stability.
  • Analysis and Reporting Support: Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis. Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making and organizational objectives.
  • Risk Management Program Support: Direct the credit union's compliance and risk management programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Proactively identify and mitigate financial and operational risk.
  • Vendor and Regulatory Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with auditors, regulators, and external financial partners. Represent the credit union in compliance and financial matters.
  • Leadership Growth Support: Supports leadership in assessment, reporting, coaching, training, and improvement plan recommendations for the organization, departments, and individuals as needed.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Coordinates and prepares all finance and risk strategies for the credit union and presents to executive team; includes, striking the right balance between safety and soundness and the member experience.
  • Policy Program Management: Manages the development, implementation and review of all credit union policies. Responsible for Finance and Risk Management related core processes, policies and procedures. Makes recommendations to executive team and board for approval. Assures team is following all processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Community Advocate: Serves as a representative of the credit union within the community and is actively visible at credit union events.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years at a management level and demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient understanding of strategic planning
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment of financial institutions
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, functions, etc.) is required.

  • Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information
