SUMMARY
Within the structure of the Custodial and Event Services Team, this position performs services for events held on Central Campus and occasionally remote campus buildings and grounds. This position works a flexible schedule (including nights and weekends) to supports events. Events include College events, concerts, theater performances, weddings/receptions, sports events/fundraisers, and other non-academic activities sponsored by Jackson College. This position supports events for internal and external clients. Cleaning responsibilities include general and specialty areas (e.g. large lobbies, theaters, etc.) in designated buildings as assigned by supervisor. Exhibit exceptional customer service in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, work well in a team environment, be well-organized, detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task. These functions are performed by the duties outlined below.
Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Primary responsibility for the set-up and tear down of events; including setting up tables, chairs, and special equipment as requested by the Event Organizer; provides for event tear down including removal of tables, chairs and special equipment as requested by the Event Organizer. Provides additional assistance to Event Organizer as requested. Cleans event areas and all common spaces which may have been impacted by event activities. Communicate any damages and or additional work required to the Grounds and Custodial Director and Special Events & Community Relations Coordinator.
- Work in conjunction with the other event/custodial member to ensure all events are sufficiently covered.
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Works with supervisor in coordination of assignments and schedules for all special functions.
- May provide first level support of College owned computer and audio/visual equipment, during events, by performing basic troubleshooting to resolve common problems.
- Empty trash and tidy up bathrooms as needed during events.
- Maintains an inventory of necessary supplies and equipment.
- Cleans theaters, dressing rooms, common areas, dining rooms, lobbies, entrance ways, toilet rooms, hallways, and offices.
- Sweeps, mops and dusts interior areas of buildings, washes walls, windows, woodwork, furniture and light fixtures; strips and polishes hard surface floors; vacuums and cleans carpet; empties waste containers and disposes of waste materials (including properly packaged bio-hazards).
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure; refill restroom dispensers; cleans and sanitizes toilet rooms, showers, and drinking fountains.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers/extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
- Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
- Check for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
- Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks. Assure safe passageway for event attendees.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
- Wash accessible interior windows and interior / exterior doors. Clean blinds.
- Respond to work with a timely, professional, respectful, and proactive approach.
- Assist staff and teams within the Facilities Department with work requests, projects, and daily operations as needed.
- Responsible for understanding, supporting, and actively demonstrating the College's beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.
CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Internal:Daily contact with supervisor, frequent contact with facilities department, College personnel including staff, administrators and faculty in daily work assignments. Regular contact with Community Relations Office.
External:Regular contact with suppliers, guests, contractors, and vendors.

Language Skills

Ability to apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to practical situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position involves frequent and consistent physical labor on a daily basis. This job requires that the employee is able to work a flexible schedule to include event schedules for early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Weekend work shall be coordinated by supervisor. The work schedule is determined by coordinating/weighing the available equipment and labor resources against prioritized work requests and pre-planned special events. Work may be required during unscheduled emergencies, building system failures, or occupant driven cleaning needs.
