Job Description:

The park caretaker is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and providing a safe environment for park patrons. The scope includes the park's grounds, facilities, and amenities year-round. This position requires hands-on groundskeeping, cleaning, and basic maintenance work to promote a safe, clean and enjoyable park experience for all users. Collaboration will be necessary with the county facilities management team for major carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC maintenance on the property. The caretaker will also work closely with the parks team to assist with preparing and cleaning rental spaces in the park for scheduled activities along with routine property maintenance. The park caretaker will also monitor activities occurring on property for compliance with park rules and venue rental parameters. The employee resides on property (via a separate lease arrangement for 2BR/2BA home) and may be required to work irregular hours , including on-call in an emergency. A park truck and utility cart are provided for on-premises park work.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following)

Ensure cleanliness and readiness of parks grounds and facilities

Perform janitorial and maintenance services including sweeping, disinfecting, waste disposal, general repairs, restocking supplies and general cleaning

Perform grounds maintenance including snow removal, painting, mowing, leaf management and tree care with regard to the property's conservation easement

Maintains outdoor recreational facilities including trails and programming areas

Operate and maintain park property and equipment including tractors, lawn mowers, small engines, and vehicles

Enforce the rules of the park; this requires the ability to address difficult situations with tact to ensure compliance.

Reports incidents and accidents that take place and submit required documents

Collect water samples and submit for testing

Make regular inspections of facilities to determine essential repairs

Collaborate with the county facilities team for building and utilities maintenance by submitting work order requests

Assist coordinators with special projects and volunteer events

Be an available source of information for all park users

Know emergency procedures and maintain first aid supplies

Available to work on-call and flexible schedule

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements)

High school diploma

Three to five years of experience in general maintenance, custodial duties, and grounds care.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES (minimum requirements)

Valid Michigan driver's license

Basic first aid and CPR certifications (within first 6 months of employment)

Ability to lift and move heavy objects; up to 100 lbs

Ability to work independently

This job is required to serve in an "on-call" capacity and is required to live on property.

Position often works in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather-related heat and cold, rain, wind, and related elements.

May be exposed to high and precarious places, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, or airborne particles, and infectious diseases.

May occasionally be required to lift/move up to 100 pounds

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES (minimum requirements)

Basic knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, etc.

Must have experience with and ability to use computer programs, including but not limited to Cloud-based file storage, Microsoft Office programs, social media platforms, scanners, and digital cameras.

Interpersonal skills necessary to work courteously and effectively with other employees and the public.

Skill in the use of custodial tools and equipment.

Must be in good physical health necessary to perform the manual labor tasks.

Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety code regulations and the safe use of tools, equipment and materials needed to perform tasks.

Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.

Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment.

Ability to apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

Compensation:

Starting Hourly Rate: $20.31 USD
