The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities, ensuring efficient operations, maintaining quality and safety standards, and driving continuous improvement across all production lines. This role requires strong leadership, effective communication, and the ability to manage production schedules, equipment, and personnel to achieve company goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, and motivate production team members to achieve productivity, quality, and safety goals.
  • Develop, train, and inspire employees by fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Conduct daily production meetings to review schedules, updates, and priorities with the team.
  • Promote collaboration and effective communication with the General Manager, Facilities, Maintenance, and QA/Food Safety teams to align on production strategies and resolve operational challenges.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, tardiness, and accidents; address issues as needed and escalate when required.
  • Build strong working relationships with coworkers and supervisors to ensure seamless communication and teamwork.
  • Oversee the daily setup, startup, and operation of production machinery to ensure timely and accurate output.
  • Monitor production schedules and ensure all orders are in the correct sequence, with required materials and supplies available to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate production paperwork, including order changes, lot codes, ingredient swaps, and rework tracking.
  • Adjust staffing assignments throughout the shift to maintain efficiency based on production needs.
  • Ensure that peanut inventory and tank levels are monitored, accurately estimated, and properly allocated to avoid shortages or disruptions.
  • Track downtime issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve overall equipment efficiency.
  • Supervise the completion of the cleaning list and ensure compliance with sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Monitor rework processes to confirm that products are being properly recycled into the appropriate peanut butter batches.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards while maintaining a clean, organized production environment.
  • Partner with the QA/Food Safety team to verify that all products meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Oversee the management of tools, equipment, and supplies, including maintaining an accurate knife log and verifying checkout/check-in procedures.
  • Enforce policies related to mobile phone storage and retrieval procedures for all employees.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of production metrics, downtime, and any deviations from process or safety requirements.
  • Work to streamline production efficiency while improving product quality and reducing operating costs.
  • Assist in developing and executing capacity planning and workforce allocation models to meet fluctuating production demands.
  • Collaborate on strategies for cost reduction, space utilization, safety enhancements, and process optimization.
  • Lead and implement productivity improvement initiatives and ensure performance conformance across all production lines.
  • Support financial performance by meeting operational budgets, tracking variable and fixed expenses, and identifying areas for cost savings.
  • Meet with day shift supervisor daily to discuss issues, resolve production challenges, and ensure alignment between shifts.
  • Communicate operational results, issues, and updates to the General Manager in a timely and effective manner.
  • Jump in as needed to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including unjamming machines, clearing hoppers, fixing the box erector, and maintaining steady production flow.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to complete daily equipment start-up procedures each morning, ensuring all machinery is properly set up, fully operational, and free of issues prior to the start of production.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing or agricultural processing (experience in nut processing is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of production processes, machinery, and food safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficient in using production software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and operational excellence.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods (up to 10-12 hours per shift).
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate tools, machinery, or packaging.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry objects (commonly up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75lbs) with or without assistance.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders as needed.
  • Repetitive hand or arm movements.
  • Work performed in a manufacturing/production environment with exposure to:
    • Varying temperatures (hot, cold, humid, or non-climate-controlled areas).
    • Food-grade dust and allergens (peanut and peanut dust).
    • Moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
  • May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hairnets, smocks, hearing protection, and beard nets when applicable.
  • Ability to visually inspect products for quality (color, size, packaging integrity)
  • Ability to distinguish product defects through sight and touch.
  • Sufficient hearing to detect alarms, signals, or verbal instructions over plant noise.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly respond to safety hazards or production needs.
