As an Electronics Technician, you will install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify electrical and electronic equipment and systems.Electronics Technician
Serves in the Electrical Division of the Engineering and Maintenance Department at either Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies electrical and electronic equipment and systems to help provide efficient power and control operations and services. Works to close tolerances in programming controls, calibrating equipment, and making alignments and fine-tuning to specific voltages. Performs related functions.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, tests, adjusts, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and modifies the full range of electronic equipment and systems.
Uses specialized software to adjust equipment and systems and diagnose problems.
Keeps up-to-date on changing electronic technology and reviews plans for proposed electronic systems and the modernization of existing systems.
Maintains various kinds and types of electronic systems, from old technologies for which parts are often not available to state-of-the-art systems.
Receives training on newly installed systems while they are still under warranty.
Inspects the contractor's work to ensure it meets code and accepted trade practices.
Troubleshoots solid state and digital controller electronics, Category 5/5e, Category 6, and uses a wide variety of tools and equipment.
Troubleshoots to component level on computerized information systems and replaces components.
Performs preventive maintenance on a wide range of electronic systems, including Fire Alarm, Public Address, MUFIDS, etc.
Works planned and emergency outages, pulls wire, and makes necessary cable repairs.
Calculates and designs circuits.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and systems, OR
Four years of education, experience, and training in the electronics trade plus one additional year of experience specializing in testing, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a range of electronic equipment and systems.
Full performance (journey) level knowledge of, and skill in, electronic equipment and system installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.
Skill in using tools, technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, manufacturer's materials, and other equipment and guides in journey-level electrical and electronic work.
Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures needed to do so.
Ability to analyze data and information (including blueprints and schematics).
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Skill in using a computer, computerized work order, and time and attendance systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification as NICET Level II (or higher) in Fire Alarm Systems.
Knowledge of and skill in applying FAA regulations for airfield lighting.
Experience diagnosing and fixing problems with networked computers.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with electrical codes and National Fire Protection Association standards.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A state driver's license in good standing.
NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS
Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
Operates vehicle landside and airside (requires AOA permit).
Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (lifting objects up to 50 pounds). May bend, stoop, crouch, and work in a cramped position.
May be subject to adverse weather conditions and dust/grease/dirt.
May be subject to potential hazards common to the airport environment and the construction industry. Wears personal protective gear, as necessary.
Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.
A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
