Job Summary
The Activities Director plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living and nursing home facilities. This position involves planning, organizing, and implementing engaging recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to the needs of seniors, including those with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other memory care challenges. The Activities Director will collaborate with staff, families, and community resources to create a vibrant and supportive environment that promotes social interaction and overall well-being.
Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program that meets the diverse interests and needs of residents.
- Plan and coordinate events, outings, and recreational activities that encourage participation among residents.
- Conduct assessments to identify individual resident preferences and abilities related to activities.
- Facilitate group activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, and physical engagement.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure activities align with residents' health care plans and assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
- Provide support for residents with disabilities or special needs during activities.
- Train and supervise volunteers or staff assisting with activity programs.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members regarding activity schedules and resident progress.
Requirements
- Experience in event planning, particularly within assisted living or long-term care settings.
- Background in recreational therapy or related fields is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care practices, and senior care principles.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to manage schedules efficiently while being adaptable to changing needs.
- Understanding of aging issues counseling or social work principles is a plus.
- A compassionate approach to caregiving that fosters a supportive environment for all residents.
