Englewood, Colorado, United States HighQ Full time

Electrical Engineer I Overview

HighQ is proving that cutting-edge avionics designs don't require multi-year timelines or legacy aerospace bureaucracy. We bring bespoke, flight-proven avionics designs to first-of-a-kind experimental aircraft and spacecraft—delivering the system architecture, custom electronics, and embedded software that mission-critical programs demand, all from a single integrated team.

If you're an engineer who wants to do full-stack work—not just a piece of it—this is the place. You'll design end-to-end digital flight systems that combine high reliability with rapid iteration. You'll own problems from architecture through deployment. You'll work directly with customers and see your designs fly. And you'll do it alongside people who've already proven themselves on hard problems in aerospace, and are building the next generation of solutions.

For engineers who refuse to be siloed, or those that can't accept the traditional aerospace timeline, HighQ is where you belong.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an entry-level electrical engineer to join our collaborative team in creating innovative aerospace and industrial systems. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or early-career engineer with strong fundamentals, genuine curiosity, and the determination to learn through hands-on experience. You'll work alongside experienced engineers who are passionate about mentoring the next generation.

Additional desired qualities include:

  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals and circuit theory
  • Interest in building and testing hardware in laboratory or field settings
  • Eagerness to learn and grow through hands-on project work
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with team members
  • Solid understanding of mathematics and physics principles
  • Interest in building and testing hardware in laboratory or field settings
  • Familiarity with aviation and aircraft

In addition, specific project assignments will be tailored to your background and our current client needs. The following are examples of common responsibilities at HighQ, although experience is not necessarily required in any of the following:

Electrical design & analysis: Assist with aircraft control panel design, support relay logic development, participate in electrical load analysis and power distribution design, support component selection and circuit design activities, and contribute to creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Hardware testing & integration: Support electrical system testing and troubleshooting activities, develop and execute hardware-in-the-loop testing, perform hands-on aircraft integration testing, and help debug and resolve electrical issues on the test bench or on a vehicle.

Systems integration: Participate in cross-disciplinary problem-solving, support electrical and mechanical system integration activities, contribute to design reviews and technical documentation, assist with customer communication and project support, and gain exposure to field installation and commissioning processes.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent discipline completed within the last 2 years, or relevant coursework with strong GPA.
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals including circuit analysis, basic power systems concepts, and control theory from coursework or projects.
  • Basic familiarity with mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience or familiarity with CAD tools such as OnShape, SolidWorks, or similar (academic or personal projects acceptable).
  • Experience with schematic capture tools such as KiCAD or Altium.
  • Basic experience with C, C++, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with basic electrical testing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities demonstrated through personal or professional projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in team environments.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other microcontroller platforms.
  • Hands-on experience building circuits or electronics projects outside of coursework.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems, avionics, or aerospace applications.
  • Personal projects demonstrating interest in hardware, electronics, or systems design.

Culture & Benefits

HighQ offers competitive compensation, holidays and paid time off, and a flexible work environment that truly supports work-life balance. We believe in providing opportunities for professional growth through challenging projects, mentorship from experienced engineers, and exposure to cutting-edge aerospace technologies. Our collaborative culture values innovation, continuous learning, and the pursuit of excellence both inside and outside of work.

We're committed to developing the next generation of aerospace engineers. You'll receive hands-on mentorship, work on real projects that matter, and have the opportunity to grow your skills in a supportive environment.
