Position Summary

The Athletics Equipment Manager manages the operation of the Equipment Room including all aspects relating to issuance, ordering, and inventory of athletic equipment for the athletic teams.

Essential Duties

  • Daily issuance of game and practice equipment to student athletes.
  • Daily laundering of all game and practice clothing.
  • Inventory and log all deliveries of equipment and clothing.
  • Hire and train student workers and Graduate assistant for Equipment Room.
  • Keep a log on locker room conditions and request repairs.
  • Develop and implement operating policies for the Equipment Room.
  • Work closely with coaches and supervisors to ensure all sport programs operate within budgetary parameters.
  • Purchase equipment as directed.
  • Meet with the coaches to discuss the inventory and equipment needs for each sport.
  • Assist in the event management program as directed.
  • Distribute athletic varsity awards.
  • Heavy lifting and carrying may be required of athletic equipment managers as they will be in charge of the transportation, assembling and disassembling of certain equipment.
  • Responsible for compliance with all appropriate rules, regulations, processes, and principles including, but not limited to: All rules, regulations, and principles of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Atlantic 10 Conference and any other conference with which the University may have an affiliation; All policies and procedures of La Salle University that are applicable to employment at La Salle, the specific sport program, and to the students and athletes at La Salle, including but not limited to La Salle rules, regulations, policies, procedures, handbooks and manuals; All of the regulations of Title IX related to Athletics in the administration of all intercollegiate athletic programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation and any other appropriate individuals or agencies sensitive issues such as: Any suspected or alleged NCAA and conference eligibility problems, rules infractions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Promote the general University and Athletics program including, but not limited to: Attend appropriate alumni functions; Assist in organization, follow-up and contact of alumni and friends of the University for the purpose of recruiting quality student-athletes, promoting attendance at games, and promoting the University in general.
  • Regularly communicate with students, faculty, and administration to promote general enthusiasm for the program and attendance at games; Be involved in the total athletic program of the University, including attendance at meeting and support of department goals and objectives.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in professional organizations through attendance at conferences, clinics, and conventions as authorized by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation or designee in order to maintain awareness and understanding of current developments within all areas of responsibility.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Chief Athletics Operating Officer or other designee.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus 3-5 years of related operational work experience.
  • Demonstrated self-direction and motivation with the ability to work independently and work under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and successful clearance of motor vehicle record check.
  • Successful background check clearances including, but not limited to, a PA Criminal Records Check, FBI Fingerprinting Check and PA Child Abuse Clearance Check.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous experience working in an Athletics Equipment Room.
  • Previous experience working in a college or university setting.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

  • Must have flexibility and be able to sustain long work hours including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
  • Must have the ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Able to move around campus and ability to climb steps.
  • Ability to stand for more than 4 hours a daily.
